It doesn't make any sense to relegate something that is meant to demonstrate principals of civil engineering to a place where very few will ever see it. In addition, pieces like this are what make our campus unique and should be embraced.

It was one of the iconic pieces that told me that JHE was the engineering building, and reinforced the connection between theory and practice. My statics professor actually wanted to use it for a lecture but construction had begun so we couldn't. Please return it.

The Civil structure was really effectively used as a teaching took when Dr. Lydell Wiebe started using it as a reference for his course. It can still be referenced earlier, and can inspire students outside of the structural area of expertise too. But really, it's invaluable for giving students an idea of what steel connections look like before they finish Uni... And let me tell you: as someone working overseas now, that's value added to our education at McMaster that's valued GLOBALLY.
