This loving family should be able to keep their third dog. If they were forced to have one taken away it would be absolutely disgusting and horrible. The thought of this happening saddens me and doesn't make sense since there are so many dogs that need loving homes and this family is willing to do so yet are potentially being deprived of this option.

I think if someone has the space for more than 2 dogs they should be allowed to own more than 2 dogs. How does one expect shelter dogs to gain a home if the limit is so low.

I couldn't agree more with this petition! Some further points for the City of Owen Sound to consider might be: 1. to have an interview process set up and a designated person(s) to do so (maybe someone associated with the local shelters who understands the needs of these animals in search of their forever homes) whereby households that currently have two dogs and are wanting to extend their family to include a third are interviewed to see why they want a 3rd dog, can they provide for it adequately in regards to their home, is their yard fenced, can they afford another dog, what is their work schedule...do they have time to take on another dog, their vet information...maybe a letter from their vet stating they take good care of their existing pets, vaccinations, etc. Keeping this interview realistic and not too invasive. 2. Along with the licensing fees currently in place for each dog.....with the addition of a 3rd dog...an extra fee is exacted each year, even $100 or $200 with part of the money going back to shelters in Owen Sound and part staying with the city to make further changes that benefit our animal companions. As a dog owner myself and once having 3 dogs....I think 3 dogs is a perfect family size and with so so many dogs in shelters...and cats too.....needing homes, please do consider changing the bi-law so families wishing to take on a 3rd dog (and do qualify...we want to make sure the pets receive amazing care and lots of attention) can do so. This makes for happy homes, happy pets, and less crowded shelters. A true win-win. And please also amend the bi-law so that families moving in to Owen Sound who currently have 3 dogs can legally register and license them. These families should never be faced with the decision to have to part with one of their dogs or not to license them risking that if their dog does get away from them....no license, no information, no contact, no way home! If a family wants to enlarge their family by another dog they should be able to. Please allow an opportunity for 1 more dog.

Be it 1 dog of 4, the care is the owner's responsibility. So many dogs are being euthanized, some of whom could otherwise have a home alongside 2 other dogs in Owen Sound. Please save more animals lives by increasing the unreasonable limit.

Owen Sound needs to get on board with other cities and seriously revise their decision. Three dogs per household makes much more sense, especially since Owen Sound is surrounded with endless trails and conservation areas.
