Whereas the proposed budget for the City of Ottawa in 2015 includes a budgetary cut that would see the end of the pre-natal and post-natal care programs that are currently offered by the City, we the undersigned petition the City of Ottawa as follows:
Given that these are vital programs that make invaluable contributions to the community through increasing public health with information on nutrition and vaccinations, keeping young infants out of hospitals and medical clinics, and supporting young families, Council fully funds these programs at a level that matches or exceeds the 2012 budget.

The feedback from local families regarding the importance of these services has been both consistent and compelling. I am currently compiling these accounts to present before the City Council during the upcoming budget discussions. Thank you for providing the momentum necessary to ensure our community concerns remain a focus of the public record.

The momentum behind this effort has grown substantially and confirms that protecting these health services is a clear priority for our community. This response demonstrates that the public recognizes the necessity of maintaining these programs for new families.

At a time when health care providers are reaching out to parents to advise them of numerous health risks, this announcement ultimately sends the opposite message of child well-being. Perhaps City Council should look into alternative solutions such as consulatation with the Ontario Ministry of Health before making a short-sighted decision that may carry a much higher cost and consequence overall in the long run.
As a parent of an infant in Ottawa, knowing that we had access to a whole range of help and support through the city pre-natal and post-natal care programs was a great relief, especially as newcomers to the city without family. Keep these programs in place to support Ottawa families.

This programme is absolutely vital for new monthers. I used the weekly postnatal breastfeeding group as well as the baby nutrition information session and these were invaluable.
