Until Coronado Unified School District (CUSD) achieves basic aid status in 2026, CUSD will continue to have financial difficulties.
There is an existing legal mechanism for the City of Coronado to provide financial aid to CUSD – it is called the Joint Use Agreement (Agreement), whereby the City pays CUSD for the public to use district facilities such as athletic fields and the high school track on weekends. The amount the City currently pays CUSD per the Agreement has remained $370K per year since the Agreement was originally negotiated in 2016.
I support the City paying a higher annual amount per the Agreement which may be accomplished in many ways including annual rent escalations, expanding the hours that district facilities are available to the public on weekends, or making additional district facilities available to the public.

I have been reviewing the feedback regarding the current Joint Use Agreement and the potential for expanded facility access. Discussions with local stakeholders are ongoing to determine the most viable path toward adjusting the annual payment structure. Clear communication with city officials remains the priority as we pursue this necessary financial adjustment.

The city shouldn't need encouragement, you'd think that additional funding for CUSD would be a no-brainer
Make it $3M. Don’t build the sewage plant and leave the utility wires where they are!
Our schools need the support now not in a few years. Pay up city council.
The city's decisions when the children (and their parents) were too young to have been involved are the reason our school district is in financial crisis. I implore the city to consider doing their part to make things right.
