My husband and I moved here because of how Stoughton is now, not how it will be after this explosion of unneeded development. I also volunteer at YRGC and have seen how hard the downty merchants work to keep the downtown viable. It's this downtown that brings in visitors, not retail that is already available so close by.

I’m extremely disappointed with the way the mayor and council have not been forthright in open and transparent discussions about the Kettle West Development. One would think that with something of this magnitude, that there would be more transparency with this development. I urge you to not rush into this development that will have such a huge impact on not only our community but neighboring ones as well. Please inform the community of all the details of this development, and then get feedback and consent from the citizens of Stoughton before proceeding forward with this.

I handpicked this community to raise my family of 7 for the very reason that it retained the charm and living downtown that this development will destroy. I am most concerned about the tactics that have been used in moving this project forward...Wal-mart isn't going anywhere; why the rush? The people funding the monies that are so frivolously being offered need to have a chance for educated discussion.

Opposition to the Kettle Park West Development by Stoughton residents should not be dismissed. We are truly concerned about the future of our city and that a Walmart on the edge of the city is a detriment and danger to existing local business. Why should be jeopardize what we already have. Instead we should be working on improving that.

Mr. Novak, I have no idea where you heard that I am interested in subsidizing this project. In fact I am one of the few alders who has consistently advocated for the citizens of Stoughton. I am not interested in subsidizing this KPW project as reflected in my comments and my votes on the council. Please read my post.

I'm totally opposed to this development. Very disappointed that downtown/local merchants will suffer the consequences. They have demonstrated their investment in this community and helped grow this town without any such subsidy. Some say there will always be losers in any decision, but why should it have to be the ones who have invested the most?

I want Stoughton to:
* support local business not tilt the tables against them
* support business that provide a living wage rather than ones that necessitate the employees to take public (tax supported) assistance just to have food on the table and minimal health care
* grow a centralized, walkable downtown, not increase car accessible sprawl
* invest tax money on local schools, environment, infrastructure, not a multi-billion dollar international corporation
* follow our own, agreed upon governance rules rather than allow a few people in power to alter them when they wish
* govern such that we maximize opportunities to hear the voices of the people not minimize them.
There are more than enough reasons to oppose the Walmart development.

Retail development is not a proper use of TIF. These types of projects are done all over this country without TIF and there is no reason to subsidize this type of a project. Proper use of TIF is meant for blighted and industrial areas. I have discussed this with several professional consultants and they tell me this is not a proper use of our funds. State Highway 138 should be funded by state taxpayers and US highway 51 should be funded by federal taxpayers. Turn lanes and traffic improvements into the development should be paid by the developer and their tenants. Local property taxpayers should not be subjected to subsidizing this development. Local taxpayers are paying twice. If it is so attractive for these multi-national corporations to relocate in this city to maximize their profits they should be financing the project not the local taxpayers. Two of the tenants including the anchor are relocating within the city. Are the other two relocations as well? We don't even know who they are. Would a bank loan money to unknown entities? Why would we?
