It was not too long ago that the clustering discussions showed the board that the parents want the neighborhood schools kept intact. At that time the public was told that the clustering topic would not be on the table for several years. (I forget if it was 4 or 5 years.) More public input is necessary on this issue, but not until after Christmas.

I am opposed to consolidating Kindergarten in a single building. I support community based elementary schools.

Parents need more information regarding the plan, vision and implementation of this K change as well as an avenue to share our input with the Board before any decision is made.

I am opposed to the "Early Childhood Center". It would be a much longer bus ride for most of the students.

Moving the 6th grade to the middle school is enough of a change for one year. Plus, there are drawbacks to pitting all kindergarten in one school and dividing up the 1-5 grade displaced students among the other three elementary schools. It just makes no sense for a district that is 144 square miles.

NLSD needs to resolve the deficiencies in our current education system and successfully implement the new proposed changes to the middle school before we attempt to make more changes.
