Supporting arts and cultural events/activities is a necessary part of any community. Look to places like Gatlinburg (artists circle, etc.) and other known tourist destinations with these attractions for inspiration. Please establish this office as per the study recommendation.

My parents gave me the gift of love for the arts at an early age and my heart and mind have been touched over and over through the years by live theater, music and the visual arts. A child's painting hanging at the Hilton Head Hospital can move me to tears as much as viewing a Monet or Picasso. My parents blessed me with their efforts and I was 'lucky' to have arts education in my schools. I support a non-partisan structure to ensure all levels of income have equal opportunity to access the arts and strongly suggest the development of a strategic plan to foster the growth of all arts in our area. For those who may not be aware, there was a critical report several years citing important evidence relating arts education and student achievement - I include it here for easy reference:

We have been property owners on HHI for over 10 years and the arts are very important to us. It not only improves quality of life for residents, creates jobs for locals, encourages artists to locate/remain in the area, and it helps promote tourism as having viable alternatives makes HHI more attractive to other vacation spots. This makes sense on so many fronts.

I strongly support the arts in Hilton Head. A strong and vital arts community makes the quality of life better for residents and visitors alike. This should be a high priority for Hilton Head Town Council.
