This ridiculous. Even if Velasquez and Oropesa were donating $250,000 of their own money to make this change.....ridiculous. I agree with a lot of others, we should recognize local heros, someone relevant to Roswell when naming place in Roswell.

Why would anyone take the chance of losing $250,00 towards building the new center just to tag a person's name on it? That's absurd!

I am against the renaming. There is rarely a need and usually a cost to renaming. If you just have to have something named after CC, go build it. But I would prefer to honor those actually from Chaves Co. There are several fallen soldiers from Roswell, exceptional young people, we could could honor instead. However, I think money to rename could certainly be spent more wisely on almost anything else.

live time resident of Chavez county, loosing funding is the biggest reason not to rename Yucca Rec. and besides that, what is wrong with it's name? Nothing!!!!

Here we go again. Classic case of "I'm in a delusional position of power, so I need to show it". These people need to quit trying to force this. It's our tax payer dollars being spent, right? Then spend it on the necessary instead of the aesthetic. Simple solution; plant a tree in their name or a build a statue. Easy. Low cost and minimal time to complete.

Bad idea, lets name a NEW building with no previous ties to the community. Not after Chavez, but someone relevant to Roswell.

Renaming the rec center when it will cause us to lose $250,000 is beyond ridiculous.

I am in Ward 1. I am against changing the name of the Yucca Recreation Center unless the same amount of the state grant, 250,000 dollars can be guaranteed with a name change.

It's ridiculous we have to sign a petition to stop this when it shouldn't even be proposed at all! If this is a racial thing, I am Hispanic and DO NOT WANT THE NAME CHANGED!

The Recreation Center should not be renamed at this time. The reason it is a big rush to be renamed is because there is an election coming up and she is afraid of her agenda will not get carried on by the next person. Glad to see Velasquez is not running again. Now Roswell needs someone to run against Oropesa1
