PETITION RE: CHUCK'S TINY HOME

AUGUST 9, 2020

Dear Councillor Norris

Councillor Norris, we the undersigned ask you to take up the cause of our neighbour, Chuck Walker, With the Mayor and Council. Chuck Walker lives at 91 King Road. He is a quiet neighbour, with a unique talent and passion: he has built a beautiful <Tiny Home> which is on his large property. Using exquisite carpentry, and high end features including an entirely self sufficient washroom (not needing septic) this provides a sleeping and living space for two people.

This Tiny home is very beautiful, and could provide an answer to our homelessness issue. Chuck has invested an extraordinary amount of time, money and talent towards building it. Yet he has told us that due to a complaint from one neighbour, the Bylaw officers are insisting he moves the Tiny Home this week. As his OTHER neighbours we fully support Chuck having his Tiny Home on his lot, It should be considered as an <in law> suite under the Bylaws, and as a result, legal. In this time of Covid, this is an ideal solution for Chuck's family and friends to visit him safely.

As a potential AirBNB, this Tiny Home at 91 King Road is much less intrusive in our neighbourhood than the other AirBNB rentals at 68 King Road and 100 King Road. 68 and 100 King Road are loud, noisy and sometimes exceed ten people in them at once. They are not COVID friendly. By contrast, Chuck's place suits two quiet adults or a family with a baby.

Please take this up with Council so that the Bylaw department can permit Chuck to use his Tiny Home. Please consider making an exemption under Bylaw 4.29.8 for this type of dwelling when Council considers the issue of AirBNB lodging in its August meeting.

Thank you.
