The bikers that are using this trail to go 20/30klm/hour can go on Three Sisters Parkway or the Legacy Trail. This trail is for older people, families and people who want a casual walk by the Bow. We wan to look at the water, the wildlife and hear the birds.
Cyclists do not do this here. They just race down the trail.

As an avid cyclist, I still feel that there is no need to convert this beautiful pathway to a paved, higher speed bike route. This path is best for walkers, runners and casual cyclists....and there is no reason that commuter or more serious cyclists can't slow down a bit through this section. An even better option would be a dedicated bike line on Three Sisters Parkway.

Please, please Mayor Krausert and Council, keep this pathway a natural, low impact pathway for walking, running and cycling. It is just beautiful the way it is and all current users can use the path in a compatible way. In my experience as an almost daily path user, the bike riders have no issue with slowing down and enjoying the view along this lovely section of the path. I support a designated bike lane on Three Sisters parkway if the town feels we truly need a "bike highway".

Makes far more sense to make that trail and the old rail bridge off limits for bicycles. I'm an avid cyclist and there is no need to add bicycles to this short, quiet and beautiful trail.
Pedestrian only please. And maybe a few more benches for the old folks.

This path has so much mixed use...there are much better alternatives to encourage higher speed bike traffic.

The Bow River path should not be used as a high-speed commuter bike lane. I was walking with a friend who is almost deaf and had to keep grabbing his arm to pull him out of the way of bikes coming up behind us. More bikes at higher speeds would make it more dangerous for all pedestrians and especially people trying to get their dogs out of the way.

no way should this path widening be allowed. It would create a freeway for E bikes and create a safety hazard for hikers.

No need for a roadway adjacent to river area that is major wildlife zone. Present path is sufficient if users cooperate. Some bikers could slow down. Let’s avoid citifying Canmore with ageist bike routes

This trail is fantastic and safe and usable as is. Nice balance of humans and natural habitat. Please do not turn it into a “highway” making it less safe due to asphalt and speeders. Leave well enough alone!

Ultimately, SPEED is the issue. SAFETY must come first on our trails for all ages and all modes to feel comfortable using them.
Anything moving at high speeds hitting something at lower speeds will cause damage, whether it is a car and cyclist collision, or an e-bike and bike collision, or a bike and pedestrian collision.
Excessive widening, smoothing of surfaces, and straightaways make people feel safer going at higher speeds, plus overtaking. This is true with whatever mode of transport they are using.
Numerous multi-use trails throughout North America are now implementing speed limits due to this hazard.

I'm against the paving and lighting of the pathway. Gravel makes it safer in the winter when there is ice, and it's more environmentally friendly.

I am a regular bicycle user on this trail however I don't want to see the path paved or lighted. Lighting the path continues to the already excessive light pollution in this town. The energy required to do this contributes to global warming. Paving is definitely not a green alternative. The gravel surface is great, as it
Thanks

"For decades, transport engineers and planners have considered wider lanes safer, as they provided higher maneuvering space within the lane and were said to help prevent sideswipes among cars. Yet, in an urban setting, this means cars may go faster, and, when cars go faster, the likelihood of crashes and injuries increases. For example, if a car is traveling at 30 km/h (18.6 mph), pedestrians have a 90 percent chance of survival, but, if the car is traveling at 50 km/h (31 mph), there is only a 15 percent chance the struck pedestrian will survive." Source: World Resources Institute. Friends of the Path think that with so many e-bikes able to go as fast as 48 km/h, the safety danger to children, dogs, pedestrians, is real. DO NOT PAVE, DO NOT WIDEN!

Please don’t turn another area into a speedway for bikes. It is becoming more and more challenging for pedestrians, especially seniors, to find safe areas for walking. Cycling is wonderful but pedestrians must be given consideration. Thank you,

The plans for a bike highway is overkill - will destroy the romance. There are spots that need repair such as smoothing out, flattening, and sharp curves which would help this 84 year old biker feel more safe. Do not turn this path into a highway -would scare me!
