No Roadway for Canmore's Pathway!

This bike highway will have disastrous environmental impacts, from noise and air pollution from the construction equipment, to the permanent damage to the habitat of the local wildlife, both on the land and in the water.

Leave path just like it is; lovely!

This is another classic example of the Town of Canmore (Mayor, Councillors, Administrative staff) ramming projects down the throats or residents --- Peaks of Grassi, former daycare site, disastrous intersection by the A&W, etc. The Town has been unwilling to consider any modifications to this project suggested by the community. Instead of consulting, they tell os what they are doing. The recent Youtube video posted by the Town is a disgrace. The Mayor and Councillor Mah talk about 'misinformation' while their video is so full of misinformation about the scope of the project and future plans including lighting the pathway and widening it to 5.5 m. There is an article in the Globe & Mail today about the lack of affordable housing in Canmore. Instead of focusing on this unnecessary project for ~$1.5 million, the Mayor, Council and Staff should focus on housing and other higher priority issues.

climate change is real!! We do not need to pave over paradise! Animals need more space not less. Light pollution is real too.

I am shocked that the town is considering this, if you pave it and widen it it will increase the speed of bikes especially E bikes. The town has far more pressing issues to deal with, please do not waste OUR money on something that is not needed.

This proposed change to the existing pathway clearly makes no long term economic sense, nor is it in keeping with modern day “green and sustainable policies”. This change a safe and scenic gravel pathway, making it a paved speed bike highway has no place in our town of Canmore.

I live right by this path, and there is already an issue with rented e bikes riding over safe speeds down this path. Paving it would only invite more e bike use, and discourage pedestrian use. Let alone the environmental impacts of paving this area.

I am an avid cyclist and I think the pathway serves the Town of Canmore sufficiently. For the environment's sake I think artificial lights would be wrong. All of us who wish to travel after dark have our own lights on our bikes, or as native Canmorites, most of us would have headlamps. I do support maintaining the gravel surface and maybe widening of the pathway and bridges to a maximum of 10 feet. Please take this petition seriously. Sincerely, Val

I ride the pathways now BECAUSE they are gravel. There must be 100 higher priority items than this.

We do not need another bike highway . Give the animals their space

The Mayor and Mah’s misinformation video was an attempt to brush all their real original plans under the pavement, as they have had serious push back, from The Friends of the Path. We the residents along the path were all mailed a Dear Residents letter dated June 13/2022 And it only arrived after we had collected 500 signed Petitions to stop what they were proposing and the Brain child of Andy Esarte we have been told. A 18ft 5.5 metre Paved Pathway lit as that would be safer for fast moving cyclists at night! Really! The Residents letter states “ Initial scope will be paved 3.5 metre and Future widening to 18ft 5.5 metre and separation of walking and cycling facilities is planned in order to facilitate the flexibility and capacity when the travel volumes require the additional space. They are single handedly creating the volumes and the speed of cyclists with their actions. An email arrived after we pushed back. From Trevor Reeder a very nice man I’m told and the Project Engineer with NO ability to have any discussion on how to change the scope or scale of the project, stating . “ The Town does plan to consider lighting pathways which includes this Pathway .” And future widening of the Pathway to 18 ft 5.5 m will be considered in future. Just a matter of when! So not misinformation. Thank you Very Much They refused to meet and discuss the expansion with anyone after they realized we and 1000s of residents were against the expansion. A Done Deal and approved capital project. Was their response. Notice they don’t say how wide the Skinny Bridge is going to be!! And they won’t , but we were told it will be 14Ft. By them only after we demanded the right to know as it impacts a direct property. And they left that out of the video. Obviously. Why do they need a bridge bigger and 4 ft wider than the 8th street bridge over the river to cover a drainage run off ditch?? Please carefully review the business case for this expenditure: why is it needed? why now when the tax burden should be reduced given the inflationary pressure and potential recession as well as other priorities such as affordable housing.

Please do not pave and light our present pathway

Ban all electric motorized bikes from pathways

Keep it dirt. It can’t be improved.

Enough with paving paradise

This is completely unnecessary and a waste of taxpayers money which could be used for real important projects.

Leave the pathway as it is, there are already enough bike paths in town. Let’s leave this as a safer place for people to walk, without the worry of too many bikes.
