No Roadway for Canmore's Pathway!

I was shocked to hear this news from a resident who lives along the pathway. I ride this pathway often and want to keep it real and natural. The e-bikes can ride on the road. We cyclists can slow down. Gravel is good! Extend the Legacy Trail from the Tourist Information Centre instead to connect to downtown Canmore.

The cost is excessive when we are short staffed in our emergency services and the existing path serves our community well. Spending money on this path should not be a priority when other basic services are lacking

I am 70+. I do bike on the pathway - gravel is safer. In winter, I can not walk on the sidewalks, the town clears them, but then they become ice and I must walk on the street. When they paved the pond trail to the grocery store, it also became dangerous. The gravel is security. As for lighting - this town has never heard of 'dark skies'. The shaded street light outside my bedroom window got replaced with a full on street light and the towns response was 'Buy better blinds'! How about another year of ski grooming the trails in winter and mandatory bike bells for passing pedestrians. In Europe they are paying people to rip up ashphalt and replace it with more natural drainable surfaces and here in Canmore (pretending to be climate change friendly), we are doing exactly the opposite. Get real people.

The mayor & his councilors are somewhat arrogantly dismissing this as a minority thing well he better think again - in my experience the more people find out about this awful plan the more opposition is going to grow. Listen to the people.

Paved asphalt breaks down quicker and cost more for the town to maintain in the long run

Stop the dang paving!!! We’re an alpine community…let’s keep that aesthetic

This is not a green trail solution. Bad choice for wildlife, increased danger with speeds and poorly regulated electric bike operations. It is time to put a stop to turning Canmore into Disney world. Bigger more development is not better, imagine a quaint protected intelligent tourist area with less impact on wildlife, flora and fauna.

Please do not proceed with this bad idea!

This expanded path will be a disaster for the community!

We have enough pavement in Canmore, and are already in danger of seeing far too much development. Please keep everything as natural as possible.

I’m an avid cyclist and I don’t approve of this development. It’s far more important to leave the natural areas in town as they are.

This is unnecessary and unfriendly to the environment and to wildlife

Canmore has seen MORE THAN ENOUGH development. Wildlife has been displaced to the point bears have been killed foraging for food. Reminder: We are guests in THEIR natural habitat.

I am a grandparent who finds it tricky to walk with young children in town for fear of being run down by extreme bicyclists. I feel fairly confident that along the path as it presently is, that the chances of survival are higher. We do not need lighting- more pollution. There are roads with bike lanes, the trail to Banff and the Nordic Centre. We need pedestrian paths! Paving the River trail would mean chopping trees and clearing bush for toxic pavement that would have run off into river and inevitably crumble and heave with weather any way. All around bad idea. Please reconsider!

better things to spend the tax payer's money, Town of Canmore just spends, spends like the Liberal government

Canmore is special and attractive because of its ruggedness. Are we going to Pave Paradise for parking lots?

Waste of money, perfect the way it is.
