Bowing to pressure from the Chinese Consulate in Calgary, Travel Alberta and Tourism Calgary have withdrawn support for the Chinese Spectacular which is due to appear at the Jubilee Auditorium from April 30 to May 2, 2008. Support was to include sponsorship of the event, a reception for the team and a white hat ceremony. The Chinese Consulate 'threatened' that continuation of this support would have a negative impact on negotiations with China to give Canada preferred tourist destination status in China. Rather than doing the right thing, standing up for freedom, democracy and human rights, Calgary and Alberta both took the cowardly way out and cancelled their support. Let's send a message to Calgary and Alberta to tell them to reverse their decision. Furthermore, the Chinese consulate should be expelled and the Federal government of Canada should step in and tell China that this type of interference from Chinese government officials will not be tolerated. It should also be noted here that the Chinese Premiere was awarded a White Hat in recent years.
