Childcare Alert System

Signing so childcare centers can be informed when there are emergencies.

Due to the fatal shootings on Sand Point Way in Seattle, we recently had to lock down. Though we share the block with a Middle School and High School, we learned of the danger from a parent picking up earlier than usual. As professionals working with the youngest and most vulnerable learners in the state, we should have access to the same safety alert mechanisms that schools for elementary, middle, upper and higher education institutions have!

Definitely need to be some changes. Our children are everything! Count me in.

As an early childhood education, I do everything in my power to keep my students safe. I want to know that we have policies in place doing the same.

This last November we had a swat team, sharpshooter and the roads closed for a raid on a building across the street from our center. We were not notified. I had parents in the parking lot when they started the raid. A police officer stopped one of the parents at the roadblock and asked why they needed to get into our building, and the parent said their child was in the learning center, the police officer said they had no idea there was a child care center there. We did go into lockdown after we realized what was going on and the swat team pulled out guns, drugs and 24 people who were living in this tiny house. I am very appreciative of our law enforcement they helped get a drug house closed that had been an enormous problem in our area. I talked with the Sargent and asked if we could be notified if something like this ever happens again. The Sargent explained to me that our center did not come up on their search. I do not know why we have been here since 1981. Things could of really gone wrong and we were not prepared because we were not informed. I told the Sargent we had 12 toddlers on their way outside when they started their raid. If we were a public school, this would have been handled differently. We have 100 families that come in and out, and it is our responsibility to keep them safe!!

This is an essential step in keeping children safe.

All children need to be safe, whether they're in school or in child care.

Get this done before something terrible happens, please!

The safety of the children in our care is our primary responsibility. Help us protect our most vulnerable citizens by keeping us informed.

I am a teacher there while it happened we need to be informed by the police!

Definitely think there needs to be something in place to make them aware so they can do a lockdown and keep everybody safe

This needs to be fixed I not only work there but my kids go there. My family and all the other families that go there are my priority and I want and need to keep the safe.

PLEASE NOTIFY DAYCARES!!!

Child care centers have to have a business license. Police should be notified of the business location and add them to the educational rosters for emergency notifications.

It is our responsibility to keep our children safe!

Yes, I am a home daycare provider. I get calls from my kids public school that they are lockdown. I am in the same area, I have children in my care. I should get the same call so I can plan to keep the children safe in my care. I agree with her and I am signing this petition.

Please include small in-home daycares as well...we belong to this community we should be included....the children in a small in-home daycares should have a safe environment like every school and big daycare/childcare centers...
