A 'child soldier' is a person under the age of 18, who is forced to fight for a cause they are often too young to understand. When fed with lies, and corrupted by adults, they can often be pursuaded and manipulated to commit crimes and atrocities beyond thier comprehension. They are used in armies and organisations around the world, and used as political weapons by many. It is widley believed that there are around 300'000 'child soldiers' in the world today. In our opinion, and hopefully yours too, this is 300'000 too many! These children are usually from a poorer background, seperated from thier families, displaced from thier homes or living in a war zone, which makes them more vunerable to manipulation. Children are sometimes forced to commit atrocities against their own family or neighbors. Such practices help ensure that the child is 'stigmatized' and unable to return to his or her home community. This is often the start of a vicious cycle of murder and crime that we want to put an end to. A childhood is not something that should ba taken in this way, but should be preserved as a basic human right, and necessity.
