Less mess and noise than a cat fight in my front yard at 3 am. Less mess from people walking their dogs and not cleaning up after them. Love fresh eggs.

I have yet to hear any good reason that chickens aren't allowed as backyard pets. They don't run the neighborhood, like so many cats are allowed to do. They aren't loud, like so many dogs. In this case, these are pets that are kept clean, and well cared for. Please don't drag this out and make this family or others worry that they will lose their pets.

I think it's time for Perrysburg to update their codes to specifically permit the keeping of a modest number of hens by households within city limits.
I've kept chickens in the township in the past and can tell you not only are the eggs superior to grocery store eggs, the hens make personable pets. They are friendly gentle creatures with surprising personality.
Keeping hens is environmentally friendly, and when properly kept have no more odor or noise than dogs or cats.
Many cities are modernizing their codes to allow for the keeping of a small flock of hens to keep a single family supplied with eggs. I hope we can too.
