The relationship of Chichester with the Downs is a fundamental character of the City and the area. It is why visitors come.To isolate and urbanise that environment with a 4 lane highway and with housing that will inevitably be built to a new road will forever destroy that linkage. The damage will be irrevocable and irreversible. The sustainable solution is to upgrade the junctions on the existing route.

Let us upgrade the current road system rather than degrade the beauty of Chichester and the surrounding area and downland.

We seem to have forgotten that road building generates more traffic, makes congestion worse and damages precious countryside.

I use the A27 as a commuter route to work to the north of Chichester, and my journey is often hindered by tail-backs at the turn off at the Tesco's roundabout. My feelings are that a fly-over here would enhance the flow of traffic. Whilst a Northern bypass would certainly aid flow, the percentage of issues is most certainly to the south.

The Northern by pass is a short term and short sighted paster that will effect local regional and world wide business that rely on Goodwood events and have a nock on to money coming in to chichester and government from the events.
also the environmental impact to wiled life in creating a new road where the existing road the wildlife has adapted to the road already.

The "new" A27 was originally put in to relieve traffic problems and hasn't - consider flyovers in place of roundabouts and maybe traffic flow would improve.

The Government is taking us back to the 1990s. Road building does not solve transport problems in fact it makes matters much worse. Why has the current Government forgotten this lesson?

I live in Southampton and regularly attend Chichester Theatre. This will not alleviate local traffic issues, but destroy a part of the green belt.

Not only does this need to be opposed, the development plans within the local plan also needs opposing. Are they trying to deliberately ruin Chichester and the surrounding area?

A northern bypass will not solve the local traffic problems round Chichester. It is more likely to lead to rat running through unsuitable country lanes and more local congestion due to the effects of induced traffic. It will destroy Lavant and cause severance for the communities on the north side of Chichester. It will also destroy the stunning views of Chichester from the National Park and raises the question on whether a northern bypass would contravene the Special Qualities of the National Park which apply not just within the Park but it's environs outside.

The Northern bypass is in appropriate because 1) Its not cost effective 2) It will not resolve the existing issues to the southern by pass 3) It will destroy Goodwood Estate, one of the greatest estates in the UK 4) The knock on effect of losing Goodwood and its events, will have a devastating effect on local hotels, B&B, restaurants, pubs and of course the city centres retail businesses
Summary : Why not spend the money on making the "existing" bypass, work properly as apposed to creating a new one ?
