Chichester Deserves Better

Surely it must be more cost-effective to improve traffic flow on the existing A27. A northern bypass would simply create more traffic congestion and cause irrevocable damage to the beautiful National Park, surrounding countryside and wildlife

More roads generate more traffic: haven't we learnt this by now? We should instead be investing in rail and bus services and improving conditions for walking and cycling.

We need to improve what is laready there rather than creating new roads. Bypasses invariably lead to more development as the are gets infilled then the new road will be just as gridlockled with all the addtional traffic.

The huge traffic flow is east-west and this does nothing to ease that congestion, whilst ensuring another special place is ruined.

I am not for this bypass to be built, Chichester is a beautiful historic city and the surrounding areas need the influx of people driving through. It will damage the richness of the city and its surrounding areas, building this bypass would destroy The beautiful countryside that is also on the outskirts of Chichester.

with such history attached to both the village and Goodwood site to destroy/ deface such places of historical interest would be a crime

WSCC should talk to the Hampshire CC about the Basingstoke ring road.

there has to be a more imaginative and intrusive solutions to chichester's growth than this.

Concentrate on resolving the traffic flow on the Southern Route and around Arundel first. A new northern route just opens to door to more housing and retail development as the circle around Chichester is filled in in later developments. We want to keep our beautiful countryside.

Ring roads, and this is what a Northern by-pass would create, destroy cities ... just visit Coventry.

Chichester needs upgraded junctions on the existing bypass not a new Northern bypass. There is land around the trouble junctions to enable wider better flowing layouts. To damage the land to the North seems only serves to allow for larger areas of housing development which Chichester doesnt need!

The last thing Chichester needs is more major roads and the inevitable increase in motor traffic that will follow. We need investment in less polluting, less noisy, less congesting transport: rail, bus, bicycle, walking. Give people more of a choice, so they don't have to drive everywhere every time.

One of the biggest attractions of Chichester is the range of Goodwood Activities, one does have to wonder about Highways England suggesting that Goodwood is destroyed as a beautiful place by a two lane, no junction superhighway, or is this proposal meant to make the final southern "solution" more acceptable? The A27 at the moment through West Sussex cannot be considered fit for purpose, many studies suggest that the purpose of the A27 is facilitate local travel, not strategic Trunk Route Travel, so how does this proposal help?

The green gap between Chichester and the South Downs is a precious resource which needs to be retained for future generations.
