Chichester Deserves Better

Has no one learnt from the M25 - building a new road is simple, it destroys beatiful land, and then needs upgrading to cope with more traffic than was planned, so doubles the original land grab. The more green land taken, the more tarmac, the more tarmac the more likelyhood of flooding. Idiots.

I believe the connection of n chichester to the South Downs is the paramount concern here and that the proposed n bypass would sever this connection robbing chichester of its most beautiful and unique feature

Terrible idea. Upgrade the A27!

If 60% of A27 traffic is local how about making cycling a reasonable alternative for local trips? We have a lovely flat town with a compact shopping centre. Some thought and investment is all we need to make Chichester a model cycle friendly town.

when is someone going to stand up and say enough, and start to protect our countryside and wildlife that lives in it. Once it goes ahead it will only be the start of something much bigger. Stand up and protect it now or lose it forever.

A northern bypass is a waste of money. It would still leave the old A27 running to the south of Chichester needing massive investment. In the short term it may be cheaper to go for a northern bypass but it's a short sighted solution compared to upgrading the existing A27. The northern bypass would also inflict unnecessary environmental and economic damage upon Chichester.

I am concerned about the secrecy that seems to be surrounding this proposal and the limited time that has been allowed for consultation.

Please do not spoil this rare and irreplaceable landscape

Bypasses are not the answer to local traffic problems. Chichester needs sustainable solutions.

Should not happen

This is a scheme that makes no sense in terms of ameliorating traffic flow both locally and cross-county and which would inflict irretrievable damage on an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the SDNP. It would also have a ruinous effect on communities and local business along the route.

Ruining this marvellous piece of England is outrageous.

Surely any funding would go further if spent on improving the existing infrastructure rather than starting a new road from scratch e.g. creating tunnels/flyovers at the bottlenecks. The damage to communities and environment along the proposed northern route would be permanent and and devastating.

A northern by-pass wold be a disaster for the countryside and for Chichester

I love cycling north of Chichester, a northern bypass is a dreadful idea.

You just need to sort the roundabouts at the Bognor and Selsey turn offs.

This new proposed northan bypass would ruin lavent aswell as destroy the connection this area of chichester has with the cotryside. It is unessisery considering other options. The bognor traffic contributes to the hugly to the buildup of traffic and the northen bypass would not solve this. Finally it would ruin the goodwood which many of the chichester locals are so attached to Say no to the bypass

It's such an obvious solution if our local MP can't see that he should not be there we must look to the future the northern route is a disaster

We don't want a bypass around Chichester, keep the countryside as it is, what little we have left.

This doesn't need to be done. You need to improve and build on current roads I come to the Chichester area very frequently as it's beautiful. I can speak for a lot of people when I say that there's no point in coming to see what was once a picturesque place if there's a road through it. Please think this through before you act.
