Chichester Deserves Better

I have lived in the Chichester area all my life this would be the worse possible thing to happen to Chichester and the surrounding countryside

The countryside and beauty of Chichester needs to be safeguarded. The loss of a beautiful landscape is not the solution to traffic congestion on the roads.

I am totally against the building of a northern bypass round Chichester. Improve the present route of the A27.

A quite horrific proposal to inflict on an area of outstanding beauty.

Important to protect the charm and beauty of our city and surrounding countryside!

We won't solve traffic problem just moving it north - flyovers rather than roundabouts and no traffic lights designed beautifully could enhance the city

DONT DO IT!

I have often wondered why Chichester roundabouts do not have traffic light system, particularly the Fishbourne roundabout, like they have in Hampshire. This would could cut out a lot of hassle and would ease the stress at peak times, however, flyovers are also a good idea, again, as they have Hampshire end. Why is West Sussex so slow and backwards.

The full social and environmental impact of this proposal needs to be explored and taken into account. Decisions based primarily on short term finance are no longer acceptable.

Making the least sustainable form of transport more attractive is the last thing we need. The impact of the additional journeys generated by a Chichester bypass will be felt over a wide area. We need long-term planning and investment to make sustainable modes of transport safe, attractive and affordable.

I strongly agree. When is the Government going to stop destroying our lives?

This is completely unnecessary for a problem that only exists for a few minutes at peak times due to roundabout congestion. And even then, although frustrating at times, it only causes a hold-up for a few minutes. A few roundabout flyovers would solve the problem and save billions of ££££ as well as part of the loveliest countryside in the south of England.

This is a short termist policy - upgrade A27 properly.

We need intelligent planning, not myopic repetitions of past transport policies that simply do not work. I vote for common sense, not regressive road building.

A northern bypass for Chichester would be devastating environmentally as well as socially for the people of the city.

Efficient, cheap public transport systems please

Has no one learnt from the M25 - building a new road is simple, it destroys beatiful land, and then needs upgrading to cope with more traffic than was planned, so doubles the original land grab. The more green land taken, the more tarmac, the more tarmac the more likelyhood of flooding. Idiots
