I have been coming to Chichester for over 20 years. I believe that any new road built to the north of the city will be a disaster for the countryside and tourism.

North is on the door step of a national park. The area is beautiful quiet and has a unique character. There is a road to the south that just needs flyovers and an extra two lanes. A much better plan.

surely most local traffic is coming onto the A27 from the south of Chichester. Shouldn't the existing route be upgraded instead.

It would also destroy the Goodwood Revival, the leading historic race meeting in the world bringing jobs, prestige and millions of pounds to the local economy and Chichester. Utterly pointless when an alternative solution is available.

The clear objective should be to provide a more efficient way for traffic to bypass Chichester.
This need should take into full account the attraction of Chichester and its environs for its historic importance, the natural beauty of its landscape from the Downs to the coast, for the National Park nearby, and for all the events on key estates like Goodwood which bring so much interest and income to the city and the county.
To plough a new big motorway through this landscape is sheer idiotic short sighted vision by people who clearly do not appreciate or understand the dynamic and damage involved.
Development of the current A27 into a faster flowing motorway bypass is the obvious way forward. Indeed it is shameful that this has not already been done years ago by those with responsibility for the flow of EW traffic along the South coast. .

We have not become a National Park to have a multi lane bypass carved through some of its most attractive scenery. Improving the existing route is the only option.

I frequently visit Chichester & surrounding villages, & like man y others, the superb countryside north of the city is a major reason for these visits. Tourism is an important driver of the local economy, -a northern bypass would hinder rather than help.

Stop proposing plans to save 10mins on a journey, look up, open your eyes and value the irreplaceable beauty that surrounds Goodwood and the area north or Chichester. It quite simply represents all that is amazing about England. DO NOT create yet another total planning disaster as a legacy for the future, Do not build a northern bypass.

Having carefully reviewed the options I consider the northern bypass proposals to be disastrous. I urge you to oppose these options that would wreck a vast area of West Sussex. I am seriously concerned at the proposed time frame. Would you please seek a categorical and unambiguous statement (with no weasel words) that a decision has not already been made. It would be deceit of the highest order if the consultation was compromised.
