Please do the right thing and upgrade the current Chichester bypass. Please do not spoil the lovely rural countryside between Chichester, Lavant and the Downs, enjoyed by walkers, cyclists and visitors

I feel the proposed Northern Bypass for Chichester would seriously threaten the tranquility of the Northern villages whilst not solving the transport problems in the city which will only increase if more capacity is added.

A northern Bypass would destroy forever the ancient land scape north of Chichester, irreparably damaging the ecosystem and lives of many when there are far some simple solutions.

Far better to alter the A 27 and introduce fly-overs instead of roundabouts, thus allowing the flow of traffic in all directions

Im opposed to this proposal on the grounds that it will not solve the traffic problems experienced by those local people living south of the existing A27, which is due to inadequate junctions and interchanges. Please consider this needs first.

No, no, no! This will ruin Chichester and it's connection with the beautiful countryside to the North. Idealistic I know, but an improved and cheaper local transport system would maybe lessen the local traffic. Travelling to Bognor on the bus with my daughter a return journey cost us nearly £14! Upgrade the existing road.

Instead of improving the existing A27, it is thought that a new route through peaceful countryside is the best alternative?
Yes, the congestion along the A27 south of Chichester is unacceptable but that's roundabouts for you. They just do not handle congestion very well. Whats wrong with removing the roundabouts and building two junctions on either side of Chichester and a few underpasses? That way local traffic can bypass the A27 and through traffic will be unimpeded in driving past Chichester.

Leave our beautiful countryside alone. Improvements to the existing junctions to allow southbound traffic to cross the a27 without coming into contact with through traffic will achieve just as much without the immense and irreversible damage to our environment that a northern bypass would cause even before the developers move in to ruin our historic city. A free flow of southbound traffic would not only allow through traffic to pass easily it would result in much improved flow in the city as a bonus with only the railway crossings to cause holdups.

It seems that a proposed "northern route" has been around for many years and was rejected yet again as recently as 2004, if I understand correctly. The favoured solution, since 2000 or before, has been to upgrade the current A27 bypass junctions. More importantly, a traffic study at that time (2004 or earlier) indicated that the congestion on the existing bypass was essentially due to local traffic. NOT through traffic. So a Northern route will not fix the problem it sets out to solve. In fact the problem will get worse since there will be no money left in the pot to spend on the "old road". The local environment will be badly affected as noted elsewhere and for nothing. It is a disgrace that the Highways Agency is trying to push this through on the sly and also disregard previous recommendations following lengthy studies at no small public cost.
