Chichester Deserves Better

It will be a tragedy if this beautiful countryside with ancient villages is destroyed. Please reconsider.

Completely against it. It is a lovely area which will be completely destroyed.

Typical Tories, doing what benefits their donors - road builders and property developers. Cameron's weasel words at the climate change talks are laughable when his government is pushing through the least green agenda possible.

"Improve the existing road" appears to be the favoured approach of majority. Not all local residents either. If this new road goes ahead it will damage not only the countryside surrounding Chichester but completely destroy the local economy. A lot of income will be lost to the locality. Chichester itself will become a City of empty shops, Cafe's and Charity Shops.Yuck.

The present proposals seem ill conceived. Surely the most cost and environmentally effective solution must be to adapt, upgrade, alter, amend or otherwise change the existing highway routes ?

It is disgraceful that it is even a consideration to put a dual carriageway adjacent to the National Park and through some of the country's most beautiful countryside when we already have a major route which could and should be improved.

What a nonsense to even consider this proposal. A series of fly unders at the relevant pinch points on the present A27 would solve the problems and not desecrate the countryside

I feel passionately that a northern bypass would go against so many principles of good planning for Chichester and its environs. It would desecrate the City's landscape setting at the foot of the South Downs National Park and the recreational assets of the Trundle and Goodwood areas. Furthermore it would do very little for the traffic issues of the area as a whole and it will simply not resolve the longstanding issues surrounding the southern route whichever side of Chichester you come from. Upgrading the existing A27 junctions would be so much more appropriate.

Very disappointed to here that there is a bypass planned for west Broyle. We moved here a year ago and with the planned White House farm development it just takes away the rural beauty of the area and very damaging for Goodwood. It's pull is the motor circuit and the beautiful surrounding area of it and brings in huge revenue for the city which could be lost!

I object to the plans for a northern A27 bypass. It would ruin the area.

I believe that any northern bypass would result in enormous environmental and economic damage to Chichester and would not address the existing traffic problems. I am totally opposed to any new northern route which would result in the city being encircled by roads and spoilt for future generations. I believe that the proper approach, which would benefit the city and surrounding areas, must be to upgrade and make improvements to the existing A27.

I object strongly to the idea of a Northern Bypass being created between Summerdale and Lavant.

Great Britain is a small island with high population densities in some areas which does not mean there can be endless development to accommodate more cars for ever and ever.

I oppose this on the grounds of environmental change to the area.

This proposal ignores the detrimental financial implications it will have on the two major employers and revenue makers in the area, to say nothing of the devastation it will impose on the residents in its path.

Focus should be on making the current A27 work more efficiently - not on tarmacing over Chichester's countryside and ruining quality of life for those in northern Chichester.

We need an upgrade to the existing route to benefit all traffic and cause far less disruption to local people, especially those directly affected by the bypass.
