Chichester Deserves Better

This is just about the most stupid, ill-thought out, expensive idea I have ever read about. This will create damage & destruction & no real solution!

Has this been thought through properly? Upgrading the existing bypass would seem to be the best option for chichester, its traffic, its economy and the surrounding countryside.

Lazy planning that doesn't address the issues. This simply increases congestion at Arundel and removes investment from the existing road.

What is needed is a flyover that bypasses the multiple little roundabouts so that those trying to get from Portsmouth area to Guildford direction can zip over and not impact the Chichester domestic traffic. Tearing up our countryside is NOT the solution!!

Everything about this proposal is wrong. It will carve up our landscape, harm the local economy and will not bring benefits to local traffic flow. Has anyone carried out a study of the amount of local traffic that use the A27? We use it for local journeys not to bypass the area. 1000's of new homes are due to be built which will all add to the pressure. We need the existing A27 and A259 to be improved to benefit all of the communities in the Chichester and Arun Districts.

I strongly appose these plans for a northern bypass. This has not been thought through thoroughly and will not create the benefits that I believe the planners are hoping for. It will affect this area in a very negative way and I hope very much that the money can be spent on improving the existing A27 to accommodate the increase in traffic with perhaps flyovers or similar. I urge you to please reconsider this plan as it stands now.

A northern bypass won't solve the problem and will destroy an area of natural beauty and will also impact on Goodwood events- sources of local business and employment.

Since the 1970's, when flyovers were installed over key roundabouts on the A12, bridge building and road engineering has come a long way - but the A27 Chichester Bypass has not. Flyovers and underpasses on the existing route are the solution, not the wilful destruction of the environment to the North of the current road.

Improving the existing road to the south seems such an obvious solution. Why destroy the beauty to the north? Seems perverse.

This cannot happen! Our beautiful countryside is already being damaged but the thought of going through a Heritage site that offers so much to the local community is heartbreaking. Please don't let this happen.

life shouldn't just be about getting everywhere quicker - we should actually start to question how much traffic is on the road, and how neccessary it all is.

Improve the existing route to the South - I am sure it could be done with very little impact on existing properties - with care. Too many cars using central Chi as a rat-run as the A27 is so bad with all the roundabouts bottlenecking. Also need to look at all options for sorting out Arundel link.

The road noise will completely destroy so many special villages to the North West, North and North East of Chichester! Strettington particularly will be vulnerable!

I travel from Pagham to East Ashling everyday so know this problem well however I do not support this plan. We should be looking at the bigger picture - Improve the existing A27 and make all our lives more bearable.

We cannot destroy our wonderful countryside, not forgetting historic houses without proper discussion and debate

Why not make the exisiting roads more efficient - use exits rather than roundabouts? There is no point to ruining more of our countryside with more inefficient roads - just make the ones we already have better.

With all previous traffic surveys showing the majority of southern bypass traffic movements originate from south of Chichester , we would still experience congestion in years to come ! The solution is to improve the southern bypass to make it free flowing and allow north/south traffic to flow by adding under-passes/bridges . It works at Havant , it should work in Chichester !

Building the A27 in the beautiful area north of Chichester would not destroy this precious area visually but decimate the peace and tranquillity

I can't understand why they would want to desecrate our beautiful countryside.
