Chichester Deserves Better

We need upgraded junctions to the existing A27 not irreversible running of the beautiful land to the north of Chichester. A northern bypass will reduce Chichester to an island hemmed in by roads.

I agree with comment made in by those objecting to this proposal, it will be an unmitigated disaster to so many aspects of the natural environment and cause economic damage to local industry, farming and leisure, which provide vital employment to both permanent and seasonal staff, we don't want nor need to part of a "Chichester Sandwich"

I have serious concerns to this proposed bye pass as not only is this an area of natural beauty, but an area of biodiversity with wild flowers, plants, fungi, moths, butterflies, beetles and birds. It will pass perilously close to Brandy Hole Copse with its two iron age boundaries and ponds with protected newts and bats. The proposed route will pass directly over the River Lavant and could be subjected to oil and petrol spillage from accidents on the bye pass. The River Lavant serves wildlife which rely on the river water such as deer, sticklebacks,egrets, and other birds. It also contains eels who have made their way up the river Lavant from the Sargasso Sea. An alternative route should be found.

More destruction of the disappearing countryside - improve the existing A27.

We don't need a bypass leave it as it is

Just improve the existing that is the only answer why destroy more countryside

Serious consequences to the environment and the economy of Chichester. It would also impact on the Goodwood estate and jeopardise a huge amount that the Revival and Festival of Speed contributes to the local economy and employment

I agree with all the comments.A new Northern by pass would be destructive to our beautiful pastures and derive no benefit for local people who are the principal users of the A27

A Northern Bypass will: 1) Create unacceptable noise pollution across large swathes of the South Downs National Park. 2) Completely enclose Chichester in two bypasses ; one south and one north. 3) A minority of traffic using the current A27 is through traffic

I object to the plans for an A27 northern by-pass of Chichester and ask that the existing road be upgraded

I was born & bred in Chichester & regularly attend racing & Festival of Speed, the thought of this proposal is horrifying & cannot be allowed to proceed.

A Northern Bypass would have a disastrous effect on areas of the National Park, Goodwood Estate and farmland. It would be more effective to upgrade the A27 and to remove all the roundabouts around Chichester

The answer is simple. Improve the A27. Put in flyovers and extra lanes. Running a new road through green countryside is definitely not in the interests of Chichester, it's people or it's economy.

This would be appalling. It cannot go ahead.

Why would you ruin a whole other swathe of the country side and surrounding villages when there are other options available which would not do that. Although you may not be able to see it, you will definitely hear it.

We support this petition. Why does everything have to be spoilt for cars. Leave lovely cities alone.

a northern bypass would just destroy more of the beautiful downs, destroy the centuries old connections of the historic roman city to the downland and do nothing to improve the main problem, which is local traffic flow in and out of the city.

Please do not cause irreversible damage to this beautiful countryside and to traders & shoppers in Chichester itself

I live in lavant and do not want a dual carriageway right next to my house it would destroy the peaceful environment
