It would make better sense to improve the existing A27 rather than destroy local routes and businesses across the area north of Chichester

I live near the existing by-pass, but still see the tragic loss to countryside and the character of the city that would result from a northern by-pass.

As a regular visitor to the south side of Chichester using the A27 to visit friends in the villages and also to reach industrial estates I find it completely clogged. This road desperately need improvement so that the huge volume of local traffic it supports could become more free-flowing. This is a densely populated area, far more so than the northern side of the city and the traffic problems encountered now would not disappear were a bypass to the north be created. Keep the A27 and improve it to make it free flowing.

What was the point of allowing local people to spend so much time agreeing a village plan if there were behind-the-scenes plans to literally bulldoze through them? Moreover, it always seems that planners and developers see a "blank" space on the map and think it an opportunity to build; there appears to be no appreciation of the concept of countryside. Chichester will become an island, surrounded by traffic. I fully sympathise with those to the south of the A27 but ploughing up the green spaces that remain along the south coast cannot be the answer. Call me a NIMBY if you will but why shouldn't we fight to protect our environment? No one else is going to and once it's gone, it's gone. Just because improving the existing structure is difficult does not mean it should not be attempted. How many times has it happened that the easy, short term solution to something has turned out in the long term to be neither easy, cheap or indeed a solution at all?

The proposed route will cause huge impact on the beautiful South Downs. I used to live in Lavant and was devastated to see the proposed route. Lavant is a quiet village which will be ruined by the constant sound of traffic in the proposal. It will also dramatically change the country feel. This is an AONB which will be substantially destroyed if this propisal is to go ahead. What about the other options?

Who ever even dreamt up the idea of destroying the beauty of the South Downs for a stupid bypass needs a thorough dressing down!! Upgrading and improving the existing A27 is the ONLY acceptable option.

A fundamental change to the character of Chichester. Why spoil it? Yes the options have their challenges but accept that challenge to retain something for generations to come.

The existing A27 is not fit for local or through traffic purpose , investment to improve it is needed to improve local amenity and encourage community working and is a much better use of resources than a new road on the very edge of a National Park
