Chichester Deserves Better

The proposal is travesty and I suspect fails to meet a rational cost benefit test when compared with alternative means of coping with the traffic problems

A disgrace that anyone could think about ruining the south downs countryside.

It would be a travesty if the route near the National Park were accepted. There are few areas of tranquillity around Chichester and to create a road to the north would reduce these again.

We must properly improve the present A27 bypass to the south.

The countryside around Chichester is too beautiful and precious to destroy by an unnecessary bypass.

Absolute madness- Upgrade what it already there

NO to Northern bypass, just fly-overs on existing A27, it works at Havant admirably.

Northern bypass ridiculous. Please can we have single lane bridges over congested roundabouts on A27

This scheme would spoil an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The southern A27 needs improvement to carry the increase in traffic. This will have a far less negative effect, than going north of the town, suggest all involved read 'THE STREAM' by Brian Clarke, ISBN 0-552-77077-9

I believe that the northern proposal would des donate an area of natural beauty and spoil the national park and that the existing a27 could be reconfigured to solve any of the necessary requirements

No way should a bypass go through Lavant. Sort out A 27. PLEASE

As a long-time worshipper at Lavant Church, resident of Lavant and Headteacher of the Primary School I have huge concerns for the safety and welfare of the people of Lavant if this proposal goes through. The impact of the noise and traffic will be colossal. A quiet village will bw devastated.

A northern bypass would not solve the congestion on the A27 south of the city. It would despoil the priceless beautiful countryside we all value and create unnecessary misery and disruption for those householders affected.

The case against a northern bypass is convincingly made in the flyer entitled "The battle for what is best for Chichester business" distributed by Chichesterdeservesbetter.

A northern bypass will not necessarily affect the critical congestion from the increase in traffic south of Chichester. The only solution is a major upgrade of the present bypass with construction of at least 3 flyovers.

Highways England … what are you thinking. It appears somewhat humiliating for you to contemplate another bypass since it shows a failure to grasp the essence of what is needed for this beautiful ancient City. The only way forward is to get the first bypass right before you would even consider another. Chichester demands the existing bypass be ‘fit for purpose’, for both local and through traffic. The logical segregation of traffic streams is surely well within your planning capabilities. Highways England, do the right thing for Chichester. The presence of a northern bypass would profoundly wound this ancient landscape for the current and all future generations. Once it is gone, it is gone.

For goodness sake put in fly-overs on the A27 and the problem will be solved.
