We need to consider the future development of chichester and improve things for the local residents, improving the existing road makes so much more sense than carving an dual carriageway through local farmland, countryside and national park. It will ruin livlihoods and scar yet more of this ever dwindling beautiful land.

We have to sensible here and choose an option that benefits the local residents of chichester by improving what we already have, let's not ruin another beautiful part of this country just because it's easier and more convenient for future development, haven't we ruined enough?

The A27 would continue to service all needs if upgraded correctly. The destruction and damage created by a new bypass would be irreversible.

I AM ABSOLUTELY OPPOSED TO THE BYPASS. UPGRADING THE EXISTING A27 IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE OPTION.

To build a highway between the last bit of open space between the glorious Goodwood South Downs and our beautiful historic city of Chichester, is road planning gone mad. It'll be a hideous scar across the land.There will still be problems on the existing A27 as it takes mainly local traffic. That has to be upgraded, not the tearing up of green fields. Don't ruin our precious corner England.

The strategic land between Chichester and Lavent should be preserved as was decided in the recent appeal to the Planning Inspectorate. It is the existing Southern bypass that needs to be improved for local as well as through traffic. Each intersetion needs to cope with traffic from the south by over passes. There will be disruption while theswe improvements take place, but the costs will be less than the lossof the amentity value of the land to the north, including the Goodwood estate and the South Downs.

Will not stop congestion in Chichester. The best options are Flyovers which will keep the north/south traffic moving as well as A27. Simple but expensive but a much better option. Too easy for the "experts" to consider.

it cannot be allowed to happen. This is a beautiful, quiet area so close to the National Park as well. Yes there are problems with the existing bypass but building anew road will only create another problem - an environmental one. What did David Cameron say in Paris recently? We should be investing in public transport not building more roads

The current traffic problem is the southern access to the current by-pass, which will not be addressed by a northern bypass. A northern bypass in addition to the southern will create a ring road around chichester, entirely isolating it from the wonderful countryside which is currently an integral part of the city. It will ruin the entire feel of the City, without addressing the fundamental traffic problem

A 'northern bypass' will not solve the problems of the current A27, even if it removes some through traffic. The bottlenecks caused by traffic hoining and crossing the A27 from the peninsula will remain.

I am a frequent traveller by car and train between Brighton and Chichester. This motorway proposal is not what we need. The A27 already exists and can be simply upgraded. Prestige infrastructure projects of the kind proposed will simply desecrate magnificent landscape and countryside. Heritage is just as important as economic development and the balance in this case out of kilter with human benefit, particularly since alternatives already exist.

A Northern bypass would cause tragic damage to the environment and daily living standards for all residents of the north side of Chichester and Lavant.

We already have existing infrastructure that simply requires under and over passes. These will be more cost-effective and deliver a solution much faster. It is local traffic emerging on to the numerous roundabouts that causes the congestion, nothing else.
It would be deeply ironic after the amount paid in noise compensation for the construction of the original A27 and the subsequent black top remedial works that government tears it all up and throws it away. That would be a clear lack of rigour in the decision making process.
Moreover there is absolutely no point delivering all traffic at once to Arundel, which is a bottleneck in itself. This would make things much worse there.
I appeal for common sense to prevail and for the government to sort out the road we've got instead of making more of a mess.

The problems on the A27 are caused by local traffic : people coming from The Manhood peninsula or the Witterings crossing the A27 using roundabouts and traffic lights. The answer is underpasses and fly-overs. A northern by-pass serves no purpose. The North is not the problem.
