The A27 congestion is at its worse in the summer when most holiday makers are heading for the sea which is south of Chichester!

The country side is so beautiful and so rich. There is already a dual carriage way through Chichester - an intelligent upgrade scheme is better than butchering the country side.

The existing A27 could be vastly improved with better traffic management techniques such as flyovers and and/or underpasses. The proposed northern route would destroy the wonderful South Downs countryside which provides welcome tourists.

Before the Highways Agency takes this further, they should publish the details of valid proposals for imp[roving the existing road in the south.

There are plenty of cost effective ways of improving through traffic and easing local traffic congestion. The place to start is on the existing A27 by use of over passes and slip roads. The extra land use required is minimal and the benefits will far exceed an entirely new route. A new route will not have access for local traffic and it will utterly destroy the environment, which is a key feature of this gem of a city. Let's be smart for once and use intelligent civil engineering. We have the ability to serve to local and transit road users without using more valuable land or destroying the amenity and beauty of the country north of Chichester.

I would strongly support an upgrade to the present A27 with flyovers; this would not only improve the through traffic but also the frequently gridlocked traffic from Selsey and the Witterings.

Cutting through the Goodwood Estate would threaten the feasibility of big events like Revival and the Festival of Speed. These must bring a huge amount of money into the local economy. Improve the existing A27 instead.

I trust that common sense will prevail and in the long term the southern route will be the most cost effective so our heritage countryside will not be destroyed

No to nothern bypass - improve the current A27 - consider tunnelling - if it it can be done at Hindhead for the A3 it can be done in Chichester for the A27.
