Chichester Deserves Better

I have long thought, where practical, build underpasses to replace roundabouts on the existing A27. A northern bybass will not solve the problem

Please do not destroy this beautiful,so far unspoiled area of the city with traffic,noise and pollution.

I find that any proposal to build a northern bypass is totally contrary to conserving Chichester as a special place

A northern bypass is not the answer, does the highways agency seriously think this will work, what needs to be done is the upgrading off the present southern A27 bypass with flyovers, underpasses and widening, I bet people from the highways agency haven't even bothered to come out and take a look at what they will be ruining forever ! No amount of screening to the road could ever prevent noise pollution or a eyesore ,villages, countryside, including kingleyvale, The Trundle, etc would suffer from the above, that unbroken silence enjoyed would be blighted by that awful dull traffic noise in the background, something you get in and around the A27 chichester- Emsworth area, this is certainly not a long term fix for the A27 but a lazy example of highway planning, surely it makes more sense to improve an existing road structure then build from new, not to mention the added housing develop to the north, if this goes ahead, Chichester can barely manage now with the added development it's had in the past 20 years! It's crazy, had the daffodil field been developed I wonder what the options would off been then ?? Interesting! Let's throw a load of stones into the air and see where they land comes to mind!

Don't destroy Chichester's northern edge. Prioritise people wellbeing and quality of life not tarmac.

The country immediately to the north of Chichester is stunning in terms of natural beauty. The sweep of the downs between Chichester and Lavant and Goodwood is particularly beautiful. To carve a major road through this area would do untold harm to the natural environment and sever Chichester from its connection to the countryside to the north. It would open the way to more development in what is a beautiful and untouched area. There is already a major road to the south - it seems crazy not to put resources into improving that.

Hong Kong has traffic levels far in excess of those found in Southern England and has much less space in which to provide solutions. In HK the favoured solution is two- and even three-level roads with flyovers to avoid roundabouts and light-controlled junctions, both of which contribute to traffic congestion. Flyovers at each of the roundabouts on the A27 in Chichester would serve to alleviate much of the congestion at a much lower cost, both financially and aesthetically than an entirely new road.

We already have an (unofficial) northern relief road. It starts at the A286 Chi/Petworth road goes across to the A286 Chi/Midhurst road. Perhaps Ld. March would donate a bit of extra land to widen and improve the road. It would be a better access road for patrons and materials for the Goodwood events.

What is REALLY required is a two level road on the Chichester bypass. The existing road for local traffic and the high level road for East/West, straight through, no stopping traffic.

Upgrade the existing should be the preferred option

A northern bypass will make the City of Chichester a huge roundabout, with local residents trapped inside a huge ring road. Why would you want to cause any further, irreversible, damage to our fragile local landscape and countryside. Upgrading the existing southern route with underground bypasses, to keep the traffic flowing will be less obtrusive, aesthetically, and must be a more cost effective option.

I am very concerned re the impact a Norther By-Pass would cause in a still very rural part of the county and being so close to the South Downs National Park. I believe very strongly that the focus should be on improving the present A27 around Chichester.

Improve existing Southern route. Huge NO to Northern Plan.

Putting a bypass to the North of Chichester would effectively make it another 'traffic island' - there must be some alternative?!

Chichester is almost a traffic island already - putting a bypass to the North would mean that it became one!

Such a road would destroy Goodwood and the vast income and employment it brings to the area every year. You also cannot have a main highway beside an airfield. Events at Shoreham are a deterrent in itself.

the traffic flow along A27 could be improved with traffic lights at roundabouts and other upgrades and improvements. The suggested northern bypass will not address the problem and will irreversibly damage the countryside and national park.

Surely it would make sense to upgrade the existing A27 by-pass and leave the countryside undisturbed, that way everybody benefits.
