A Northern bypass would destroy a huge area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of the South Downs National Park. It would ruin Goodwood racing (both horses and cars) and be a scar across the approach to Chichester from the North via Midhurst.
A better solution would be to improve the existing A27 with fly-overs at the Tesco and other junctions.

Surely the cost and permanent affect on the countryside north of Chichester is an absurdity.
Improving the existing by-pass, as has been campaigned for for years now, is the only viable option to improve the local traffic problems in and around Chichester.

Look at Oxford and their ways of solving through traffic with improved roundabout control measures. Don't destroy the countryside when a managed solution can be implemented.

This cannot be allowed to happen in a national park and area of outstanding natural beauty. We live here as we enjoy the countryside and I do not wish that to be ruined and blighted by an unnecessary by-bass.

The solution is not to hack up more of the beautiful countryside surrounding Chichester, the reason walkers, tourists etc, come to the area.

This route for the bypass is not an acceptable option. Goodwood is a huge part of our culture and industry. Well thought out fly overs could have forestalled the current dire conditions on the A27 years ago.

It is clearly more sensible to improve the existing road network than creating more intrusions into our endangered landscape. Quality of life should be our first consideration above finance and motor vehicles.

Money needs to be spend on the A27 improving access to areas south of Chichester. Building a road to the north of the city, is barely going to alleviate problems, plus it is not environmentally a good solution.

The problem lies in the appallingly designed southern bypass and internal local traffic. A northern bypass would not effectively solve the issue, as well as irreversibly destroying a large part of the great Sussex countryside.
