Chichester Deserves Better

Surely flyovers over the intersections on the existing A27 would be cheaper and less disruptive

Adding traffic Lights at The Tesco Roundabout must help a little. Keep making small improvements. STOP large vehicles using the short cut via Lavant.

PLEASE engage some common sense! What the area needs is to upgrade our existing A27 by installing flyovers at the roundabouts, allowing through- traffic, and subsequently the local traffic to flow smoothly, as has been done in many cities like Portsmouth and Southampton. We wouldn't have huge trucks fighting their way around the roundabouts and holding up the local traffic. A northern bypass will decimate our beautiful countryside, one of the reasons that most of us want to stay living in Chichester.

The existing bypass will be OK if decent flyovers are installed to all roundabouts and Oving cross road removed.

No to the Northern Bypass

We live in such a beautiful area. Why spoil it? No north bypass.

It is the present A27 Which needs upgrading to accommodate the vastly increased housing south of Chichester.

A northern bypass would ruin Chichester for ever. The problem is that most of the traffic on the present bypass is local.

It is ridiculous to spend vast amounts of money to despoil the countryside to the North of this lovely city when the existing road can be upgraded for much less and will solve the problem'

I strongly believe that a northern bypass of the A27 would be an act of huge vandalism on the beautiful landscape whilst failing to meet the transport needs of local people. I am astounded that anyone has been reckless enough to even suggest it.

The proposed northern bypass will damage the local area. It seems completely illogical to develop to the north of chichester rather than developing the existing route. It is also shocking that more public consultation, of people who live in the area and who use the roads, has not been undertaken.

I understand that a bypass would not solve the problem of the amount of local traffic going through the town.Please support the upgrades and improvements to existing route.

The periodic traffic congestion along the Chichester section of the A27 is primarily caused by local traffic volume and not through traffic. A Northern bypass will not alleviate this problem and will instead be an expensive and environmentally harmful project in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty adjacent to the latest National Park. Upgrades to the existing A27 (flyovers etc.), while disruptive in the short term would provide a more effective outcome both in terms of cost and adverse environmental impact.

It would be a blot on the landscape in a beautiful area. Update the road that you have by creating extra lanes. The people of Chichester DO NOT want this road!

I think this is a terrible idea. It is always so baffling how planners can quibble over the slightest change in a roof tile, yet the fact that a road such as this is even been considered, to be built through our 'green and pleasant land' no doubt disturbing many bats, newts and orchids on the way appears somehow hypocritical.

Northern bypass will hit local employment

A northern bypass won't solve the problem, would be bad for the environment and a waste of money.

The biggest problem for local people is getting across the A27 which will only be made worse if a northern bypass is constructed. WE NEED FLYOVERS at the main roundabouts. An opportunity was missed when Tesco was built owing to lack of forsight..

A big yes to improving the existing A27. A series of flyovers will benefit both East-West transiting traffic and North-South city traffic; whereas a Northern bypass will be of very limited use.

A northern route would forever spoil the setting of Chichester and the surrounding villages close to and within the National Park. Surely development and upgrading of the existing by-pass is the most sensible option
