Chichester Deserves Better

Please keep the trees in their place

Bypass is not needed. What is required are flyovers over the A27 roundabouts

Please don't destroy an area of natural beauty for an unnecessary road.

Please preserve the peace and wildlife! We will soon not be using petrol cars! We don't need more roads here!

I strongly endorse the petition, I have just become a trustee of the Cass Sculpture Foundation, as a signal of admiration for a great private initiative in favour of British contemporary art and must appeal to all people of sense and farsightedness to oppose a project severely damaging to this organisation, unique of its kind in the UK.

No northern bypass. It would be an environmental disaster and not solve the traffic problem

It would be a tragedy to ruin such a beautiful place

I am a resident of Emsworth and I can see no good reason for the proposed by-pass. It will cause immense dmage to otherwise largely unspoilt countryside and should not be allowed to go ahead.

We are lucky to have such a beautiful and peaceful oasis as the Goodwood Estate and its environs, we must fight to keep it that way. There are other places traffic can go.

As has been shown in previous studies, a northern bypass will not solve any problems associated with the southern A27 route around Chichester. 80% of the current traffic is local, using the roundabouts to reach southern towns and beaches or Chichester itself. As far as progress along the A27 is concerned, Chichester presents much less of a problem than the Worthing or Arundel sections anyway. The possible loss of the Goodwood motorsport events will have a significant effect on local jobs, economy and kudos. To cut a swathe across some of the most beautiful countryside in England, effectively enclosing Chichester in roads cannot be for the long term good. Upgrading the southern route over time will benefit more people more often and be far more futureproof.

Why isn't there a flyover on the Fishbourne roundabout? That would solve the congestion in a stroke.

Please do not go ahead with this doubtfully needed project when the true cost in environment and amenity is so huge, damaging and irreparable.

This bypass seems totally unnecessary and will only achieve to ruing another beautiful part of our English countryside.

I object to the idea of a northern by-pass it will not solve the traffic problem just move it to somewhere else. Improving the existing A27 is a better solution.

It will cause irreversible damage to the countryside. It will increase the numbers of cars which we want to avoid. Chichester is an historic down which will be ruined with a bypass.

The Northen Bypass, a dual carriageway would be used by more and faster cars and rather then solving would create more problems at Tangmere and subsequently at Fontwell and Arundel, and the beautiful countryside would be destroyed forever."

I agree with Gormley

Desecration of a much treasured and naturally beautiful landscape is not the answer. Better ways must be devised for the improvement to the flow of traffic in and around Chichester

I visit Goodwood for the exceptional sculpture park and unique local scenery, both if which would be compromised by the proposed bypass, with repercussions for the tourism economy and cultural profile of the area.
