Chichester Deserves Better

Please just improve the existing route and don’t ruin our country side

The proposal would be irrecoverably distastrous. It would be far better and cost effective to make the existing A27 more efficient, e.g. Building bridges across roundabouts to allow the main flow to continue unaffected by slowing traffic making turns.

Improvements and mitigation works to the existing A27 route should be fully considered as a priority before embarking upon this 'quick and dirty' approach.

Please not more roads ruining our lovely countryside. Improve on the existing A27.

I grew up in tangmere and think its disgusting to ruin a town with sooo much natural bueaty just to build u knock down stunning houses for manky cheap builds so put the a27 bypass somewhere else u no like through a field

Please don't damage the beauty that is Chichester. Somethings are worth preserving!

The A27 is a joke

Oh gosh, this lovely swathe of land must be protected! I totally agree that other solutions need to be found and it seems so very obvious to improve the existing routes.

The view from Halnaker Mill will be destroyed for ever. Its residual wildness, described almost a hundred years ago by Hilaire Belloc in 'Ha'naker Mill' ( 1923), finally lost . The A259 towards Portsmouth, is the most obvious route to widen; it could even be one-way, and the A27 the other to the west of the city. That leaves the southern quadrant round the city, already partial by-pass, and the route that everyone takes, and will continue to take to reach the coast at Itchenor, the Whitterings, Bosham etc. This is a far shorter route than the potential proposal of the Tangmere to the Ashlings route which would reduce the skirts of the Downs to sub-urban sadness.

Roads only generate more traffic.

I urge Highways England to provide details now so that we have time to conduct a genuine consultation with all our residents before the formal consultation meeting..

The environmental impact of a northern bypass around Chichester would be catastrophic to the many people and animals who call Chichester their home. If this plan went ahead, you would destroy this historic city for ever. Please do not support this plan.

we believe a northern bypass for Chichester is not necessary and will ruin the unspoilt countryside forever. There is quite enough traffic without encouraging more and the present road system should be improved rather than new money wasted.

I cannot see a need for this bypass. I and my family are frequent visits to Chichester and the surrounding area, regularly holiday in the area at peak times, and are members of the Cass Sculpture Park, the unique attractions of which will be compromised by any northern bypass.

There is absolutely no reason for this proposed by-pass! Why destroy even more of England's wonderful park land and interfere with a great venu for both horse and motor racing?
