As a one time resident of Sussex I register my concern about the proposal for a northern bypass route for Chichester when the existing ring road could be upgraded.

Totally against Northern Bypass - it will kill the city!!!

The idea of building a new road around Chichester when there already is one is ludicrous. Why would it work any better north of the city than south? Look at the existing A27 imaginatively for the solution rather than thinking of ruining another part of the city outskape.

The core infrastructure of Chichester has been planned around the existing A27 by pass. Shopping parks, railway, supermarkets, industrial estates, high schools, bus station and police station are all to the south of the city. Aside from the disruption to the national park and existing green spaces to the north of the city, the local road network giving access to the city from the north is nowhere near capable of supporting the volume of traffic needed to flow into the city to sustain trade and jobs. Turning Chichester on it’s head by creating a northern expressway has the potential to cost the city dearly. Improving the existing bypass and allowing easy access to Chichester will benefit both local economy and through traffic.

I live in lavant and a bypass would ruin the area. And I can't imagine the noise!

Upgrades to the existing route around Chichester will benefit both local and long distance travel while a northern route will destroy yet more countryside, ruin the tranquality of the South Downs National Park in the vicinity.

Our countryside is more precious than any ten minutes saved from a car journey. Noise pollution is irreversible.

Chichester needs road improvements, but the area doesn't need destroying at the same time.

We are not NIMBYs but trying to view from a whole perspective which is clearly to design a series up upgrades and improvements along existing route

What a waste of money ....spend it on people rather than roads.

No to Northern Bypass Improving existing A27 Chichester bypass would be the most logical and sensible solution, this option will improve City's business interests and moreover preserves its natural elements. Northern bypass is an easy quick fix, but this option will only have negative impact on City's businesses and limit its ambitions. Constructability wise, improving A27 looks tedious and could take longer to develop comparing the new bypass option. On the contrary traffic congestions and chaos may be HE’s strong defensive argument to support its alternate proposal. But this will only diminish Chichester’s character and limit City’s future growth. With careful planning and phasing out junction improvement works A27 can be improved without causing much impact on through traffic and local traffic, should this be a concern. To defend Chichester’s interests, local Council should look at interim solutions to minimise local car movements in/out of city. Council should look at introducing more bus services from outskirts to Chichester especially from southern side of Chi (Selsey, E&W Witterings, Bognor Regis, Bosham/Emsworth etc). It should start looking at smart alternatives like Introducing free cycle hiring scheme located at Chi Rail station for people using busses to roam around Chi. Introduce more Cycle shelters etc. are some of the few options…..To get us what we deserve we should all work together.

We need to improve the A27 to alleviate the traffic coming from the south which is increasing as more housing keeps being built.

Temporary overpasses (like those built by the army) at each roundabout. Permanent underpasses constructed under each roundabout, whilst the traffic uses the temporary overpasses.

A northern by pass would be a disaster. The money must be spent on upgrading the existing southern by pass and its junctions, why has this taken so long !
