A Northern bypass would destroy the countryside North of Chichester and noise blight will be heard over the South Downs National Park. The proposed northern route would not solve the traffic problems but only serve to increase traffic to this area of outstanding natural beauty. The road problems on the A27 south of Chichester would continue as they always will unless underpasses and/or flyovers are built to alleviate the traffic there. If a northern bypass is built then noise blight will mean in filling around Chichester as happens and yet more traffic. Chichester certainly deserves better than this. Far better to get on with improvements to the original A27.

We have been promised improvements to the A27, to improve access into Chichester from villages to the south, for several years. This is by far the best option rather than spoiling beautiful countryside to the north of the city.

a northern bypass would be a travesty for both chichester and west sussex. There is a trunk road to the south which could be improved without ruining the countryside and creating further noise polution

Please do all in your power to oppose plans for a northern bypass which would destroy the last remaining green and pleasant land to the north of Chichester and increase traffic noise and pollution to the detriment of our quality of life.

The existing route with upgrades will be less costly, create some problems over the short term but ultimately have far less impact on the environment and save acres of the countryside. Oppose this ill thought out 'solution'.

Build on what is already there rather than build a new road through countryside, other parts of the country have successfully done that (eg widening the M1 around junction 10)

Destroying the green land for the sake of gaining a couple of minutes to get stuck at Fontwell/Worthing/Shoreham quicker does not make sense.
Use the existing route but make the junctions functional and easier to cross.
Whyke road roundabout needed a miuch larger left slip road which could be easily accomodated but was left too short. Think about the future.
The Northern route is the natural city boundary for an expanded Chichester with the consequent building land now enclosed by the roads. This must not happen.

I use the A27 regularly and agree that an improvement is desperately needed. However I believe a route to the north is the wrong solution. Upgrading the A27 roundabouts with flyovers would be a much better solution.

I use the A27 mainly as a through road. I feel strongly that it should be improved rather than building a new road which will damage the local countryside unnecessarily.

This is a mad scheme which will imprison Chichester between two roads. Improving A27 is the best option. LOCAL PEOPLE MATTER. We pay the taxes, through traffic rushes through!

Improving the existing A27 is the most logical route, less disruption and less damage to the countryside. If Andrew Tyrie actually makes any comment about local issues this will be more than he normally does !

I have been taking an interest in the proposals to improve the Chichester by pass for many years now and was pleased to hear that these will now go ahead.
Why have WSCC and the Government now trown the whole issue open again? Is it an excuse to delay or even cancel it when the opposition is so great to the Northern route ?
Please get on with it on the current line !

The northern route has been propsed in a hurry, typical. We need to protect what is left of our beautiful countryside for the benefit of all. A27 dual carriageway already exists and it is the roundabout bottlenecks that need to be sorted.

Communities need protecting now more than ever. Decisions made now have long lasting impacts so let's make the best one for Chichester not for road makers, money makers and politicians.
