Whilst the A27 is a real problem and needs addressing, we should think very carefully about the impact and benefit of cutting new roads through valued countryside.
The increase of local traffic moving to and across the A27 from north to south is the result of the volume of house building without due consideration to the impact on infrastructure or the ability to improve it.

We are solicitors working in this area, with clients throughout the region. We are regularly affected by the traffic around Chichester both attending business meetings, and seeking to use other facilities such as the wonderful theatre. We feel it is essential that the works concentrate on the movement of all of the traffic, particularly around the bottlenecks on the Stockbridge and Bognor roundabouts.

major improvements have been needed to the A27 for years. the current infrastructure is not fit for purpose and cannot cope with the current volume of traffic whether passing or local. Constant gridlock affects business and peoples lives on a daily basis and action needs to be taken. A further increase in housing around the Chichester area will only make things considerably worse so something needs to be done now.

Our print business would be severely affected by any change to Goodwood but would improve immensely by upgrading the existing A27

For me I would no longer be able to offer a location for people to come and stay and say it has tranquility and unspoilt views. Goodwood events would stop which I and many other people in this area rely on for future business. I may be small but would be greatly effected.

What with the threat of gravel extraction and now the bypass Chichester is becoming a less than desirable place to live!

the northern route would bring noise, pollution and change the landscape surrounding East Lavant which would be disastrous for our business - a small village Inn currently in a quiet location. We would no longer be able to attract guests to our 10 bed hotel and those people attending the Goodwood events will not exist due to the route that the bypass would take through the middle of the estate. Like thousands of businesses in the area we survive on the back of guests generated by the Goodwood events and this route would mean the end of us as a business.

Improvment to the existing a27 is imperitave, just bypassing the problem is no good to anybody, why would we want to jepodyse lucrative income from events and lose that iriplacable countryside.

Some of our staff have to take ridiculously circuitous routes into work in the mornings. The north south access across the existing road has to be improved and that can only be achieved by upgrading the junctions.

What we need is better flow (from improving local traffic crossings over the existing route), it doesn't have to be at 70mph. Also improved connection from the present Chichester southern bypass to the A259, set to be an increasingly important road in the Chichester-Worthing area. A northern Chichester bypass would just worsen congestion and impede accessibility for local businesses further east. An Expressway throughout Sussex with high speeds and reduced access points would severely worsen access on off and across the A27 for local businesses. We need traffic flows to be eased and peak traffic (schools, commutes) to be better managed, rather than an Expressway.

The existing A27 badly needs improving so local businesses can deliver their services to local customers. A northern route will be of no help whatsoever.

The existing road needs improving. So much time is spent sitting in congestion. Most building merchants are on the industrial estates around the existing road, we could make 10-15 trips a week to them and have to sit in traffic because of a badly planned road. So the junctions need to be improved. A new bypass will have no benefit to us as a local business. They MUST improve the existing road.
