Chicago Council of Justice for Cyprus “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Dr. M.L. King Jr. We, the undersigned, insist that: • The 40,000 occupying Turkish troops, which still remain following an invasion in 1974, be removed from the northern 37% of the territory of the island Republic of Cyprus. • Enforced separation of the people of Cyprus based on religious and ethnic affiliation is ended. • Respect for human rights be honored through identification of those still missing following the 1974 invasion of the island- 1211 Greek Cypriots and 433 Turkish Cypriots (www.cmp-cyprus.org) and 4 Americans (1998 Dillon Report to U.S. Congress). • Freedom for all to practice their religion in every area of the island be guaranteed - without harassment or violence or damage to religious sites and structures. We call on all democratic and freedom-loving peoples to petition their political representatives on behalf of this cause and to work for a speedy resolution to these long-standing issues on the island of Cyprus.
