Don't cut down lovely healthy trees.

The action of destroying these trees would be a criminal to the tress and the wild life that live in these trees. Trees should only be removed if they are an endanger to others and replaced as necessary.

The trees are not only beautiful but give the park character and the kids conkers - please leave them alone.

It would be such a shame to lose those amazing trees for no real reason. There must be options to only lose the ones that are actually dead/diseased and to replace any that are cut down.

The way to hancle a beautiful and ageing avenue of trees is to replace them piecemeal as necessary. Cutting them all down at once is vandalism.

We need to be sure that every alternative to the loss of these trees has been thoroughly explored. If there are choices, we need to know what they are. Do not rush this - there are probably other ways forward that would be less damaging.

Very sad. Unimaginative and I'm going off Wandsworth council, in regards to the trees and the closure of Dr Johnsons AV. There was no public consultation through our doors. Secretive and untrustworthy behaviour.

To fell the Chestnut Avenue would be using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. It would be a destructive act and it seems an unnecessary short-term one, lacking both vision for the future, and appreciation of history and culture, (a Common without conkers??). They are an iconic landmark. The trees currently change beautifully with the seasons, so important in an otherwise urban environment. There has been no thought for the views of users of the Common, many of whom love these trees with a passion. Surely if the chestnuts are on Common land then we Commoners should have the last say about what happens to them!

These trees are a huge part of what makes the Common so beautiful. To lose any of them unnecessarily would be a massive loss.

I grew up in Furzedown and we'd walk down the Chestnut Avenue nearly every day. It is wonderful and needs to be maintained and not uprooted. A couple of rows of saplings for a decade or two and generations won't enjoy the avenue at all. The scale and spread of the trees gives the sense of enclosure that sets the avenue apart from the rest of the common. Remove the trees wholesale and the avenue is no more. Trees can be replaced individually as and when they die and that is the right way to care for this precious asset.
