Consultation on Chestnut Avenue trees on Tooting Common

The Chestnut Avenue is a unique asset. If trees need to be replaced over time so be it - but to fell the avenue wholesale and to plant saplings in its place would be an act of vandalism which would ruin the common for decades.

Please do not cut down the healthy trees they have been there for 100+years and are one of the things which make Tooting Common a local beauty spot and such a community asset.

How can WBC even think about cutting down these tress WITHOUT consulting some of the people who use the path on the common with these trees?

Please ask your constituents BEFORE destroying perfectly good trees, just because you have funds.

I've loved these trees for 59 years as did my parents and grandparents. My children love them too.

Find an alternative solution please

Please do not cut any trees down without first informing local residents WHY. i have lived in Furzedown for 38 years and the trees are part of the good life of living in inner London.

Lack of consultation is sad; I know there are trees that have to go but not sure the argument to replace all of them so that it becomes a proper unified Avenue (same age/height/type) is right for Tooting

I support the request for dialogue and consultation with the local residents.

Those trees along that walk are such a huge part of the common! We need to keep them. Inter plant if necessary.

A local beautiful landmark - once it's gone it's gone for good. Proper consultation and thorough long term monitoring of the health of these trees essential.

I lived on Abbotswood Road for many years and the Common and its benefits to the community were beyond measure. Please do not detroy any part of it, especially the trees. Especially without proper public consultation

We live in Furzedown and have not been consulted about felling these beautiful trees on our common. There seems to be doubts about whether they are indeed all diseased. Don't act in haste to repent at leisure!

While I am supportive of the renovation project in general, it is unacceptable to cut down healthy mature trees and without consulting the local community

It's unbelievable that heritage lottery funding can be used to large scale rip up historic trees, without consultation or reason
