Consultation on Chestnut Avenue trees on Tooting Common

I'd urge the @wandbc to inform and engage the local community in tree care at this much loved spot on Tooting Bec Common. Trees are a integral part of our natural environment, vital contributor to our wellbeing and, critically, sequester carbon and keep it locked away. However, I do understand the need for us to maintain healthy trees in our parks and commons and have long term strategy - sequential planting cycles over tree-lifetimes (50-100yrs). Surely that means occasional felling and replanting over the vast minority of trees in one place, assuming no evidence of infectious disease. How does this fit into @sadiqkhan 's pledge to plant 2M trees? As our local MP, I'd like his input.

Against cutting down healthy trees. Remove the dead and diseased but leave the rest!

Please ensure the local people are consulted and informed regarding any proposed works to the trees which made such a pleasant area to walk through

There is so much pollution in London. We really can't afford to worsen the air quality further. We should be planting more trees, not cutting them down.

Please leave the healthy trees alone. Trees take so long to grow it seems absurd to cut healthy trees down when the health benefits are so clear! If you have funding, please plant more trees, not cut down the ones we already have!! Think of the long term, not just some short term money related decision.

Much more public consultation needs to take place on a proposed change that would dramatically alter the look of this part of the common for the next generation or more.

Given the landmark quality of this avenue of trees, which is also home to an entertaining collection of crows, wholesale removal instead of any of the alternatives suggested seems extreme and sad for such a lovely part of the common. If the trees are old and therefore considered a 'potential' hazard, a suitable risk notice could be placed while a longer term plan is enacted, surely?

This change will affect us for longer than most of the council members will be on the council, We must be consulted and "short term financial advantage" must take a back seat.

Please don't cut down these beautiful trees. They are essential habitats for so many creatures.

Leave the trees alone; they sustaın our clean aır, and provıde beauty. We NEED our trees.

It doesn't make any sense to remove healthy, safe trees that are obviously loved by the community, not to mention the extortionate cost involved!

I would support a program of inter-planting to allow a gradual replacement of individual trees as and when required.

This is total madness! To cut down a single tree that is not diseased beyond repair is vandalism.
