Horse chestnuts can live up to 350 years. Cutting them down now has no basis in biology. Further, they provide welfare benefits for everyone who walks the common, and would continue to do so for another 100 years at least.

TREES ARE NATURES WAY, OF
PROTECTING US.!. NURSERY TREES
SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 3 FOOT OF
MULCH BELOW, THE LOWEST ROOT,
THEN BE WATERED BY A PIPE WHICH, SHOULD LEAD INTO THE MULCH, I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE COMPANIES ARE SUPPOSED TO MANTAIN THE TREES PLANTED IN
THE BOROUGH. WX

These trees are part of Tootings heritage. They are also very important in helping to clean the very polluted air around the common. take out the dead ones and replant.

The Council will climb down over this tree business, as it intended to do, but such a preposterous suggestion will have thrown up a smokescreen to cover its move towards its real target - the car park!

I think the trees should be removed on a need to basis only.

Please don't cut down healthy trees - it makes no sense. Cut down and replace only when necessary.

Do any of the trees already have treevpreservation orders (TPO's)? If not, this might be a route to explore in first instance. http://www.planningni.gov.uk/8pp_tree_preservation_order_lores.pdf
Or is anyone that is vaguely legally-minded up for politely reminding WBC what vandalism looks like? Esp of the healthy trees!!!!
