The loyal supporters of Chester Football Club have suffered blow after blow in recent seasons. The biggest blow of all came earlier this year when Chester City FC - a club with a proud 125 year history - was wound up in the courts. This desperately sad decision could have been the death knell for football in the historic city but the long-suffering supporters refused to let their club die. Through City Fans United the supporters have rallied and reformed their club. They have worked tirelessly to develop a strong, realistic business case - one that seeks to build a successful community orientated football club that Chester can be proud of. The fans have successfully fought off competition to obtain a lease on their spiritual home the Deva Stadium. They have forged strong links with local businesses including a multi-national company in MBNA. The feel good factor has returned. However, the FA have now decided that the club must restart at Step 5 of the footballing pyramid despite their own rules and previous examples all indicating that the club would be allowed to start at Step 4. The excuse of "no room at the inn" does not wash, we want and deserve to be placed at the correct level and that is Step 4. We have suffered enough. The FA have an opportunity to right their wrongs, do the right thing and let Chester FC hit the ground running.
