We must all work together to try to ensure that the pub is not lost to us. The fact that last time it closed The Hub was opened in the village hall, to fill the gap, proves that the will to keep a village pub is alive and well. And if it had had the right kind of people running it when it re-opened - when it was well-supported - this problem would not have arisen.

To lose the remaining amenity in the village, especially with a proposed increase in the population of the village on the horizon, would be a great shame. The village will effectively become dormant as there are no services to offer to other villages and therefore a decline of the area is inevitable as has been witnessed in other villages unfortunate enough to be in the same situation. The pub should be a vital asset and a focal point of a vibrant village community.

Well I'd like to say I'm shocked by this news, however I am not! the amount of local villagers being alienated, openly insulted and downright rudeness. They are despicable people and unworthy of being custodians of such a lovely pub. They insult the locals intelience when they say it isn't viable, well it wouldn't would it when it doesn't even open its doors like a regular pub. A pub is a business not a hobby!!

Sadly this Pub has been run to make a loss for this exact reason They are as landlords in completely the wrong profession inept rude and vulgar ! Born out in the comments they have used in social media to describe how they feel about the village customers To run a business!! that is designed to suit their own needs does not signify the failure of the business it signifies the failure of the landlords Other business thrive in villages with smaller numbers because they want to and are professional and willing to embrace the requirements running a Public House needs Alienating the community is not a great plan for a successful business Do not allow this amenity to be lost Bring in professionals for a year and open it!

Years ago this was a fantastic pub. In recent years customers have been spoken to in a rude manor making them not want to come in. Poor opening hours and often the pub is closed when suppose to be open.
This pub could once again be a thriving business should the right management be put in, and a village pub is vital for people from the village and surrounding areas as a social meeting area. Let's not lose this treasured place

Village pubs have a responsibility to rural communities that appears to have been lost on the current owners. This has been a public house for such a long time it would be a travesty to see the property become residential and consequently lost forever.

The chequers is an integral part of the community in Elston. Everything should be done to protect public houses and the chequers. This chequers has massive potential and is a viable business.

times are hard for pubs but you have to work dam hard 2 run a business have the current landlords now lost 2 business Nuf said ps hope they have to pay there grant money back

Had my first job here ....was such a lovely family run pub ppl came from miles just to eat and see the locals....so many great memories ull loose the heart of the village ...
