I would love to be able to recommend our village pub to my customers, when they inevitably ask where can they eat and drink. However the competition doesn't have to try very hard to beat a pub that is closed, and serves no food. Perhaps with the right management with a will to succeed in customer service, this pub would be the success that our village needs and deserves. Because the owners have tried to cash in on this building doesn't mean it is a failure. The villagers are more astute than watery beer and homemade pizza, (watery beer was landladies description of her partners attempt to brew ale) look at the success of the surrounding villages pubs. It shows what can be done with the right management team. Asking an inflated price for an establishment that has been deliberately run into the ground, is just sheer greed.

I feel that the pub trade is dying and should be the heart of any village it is for this reason I feel the pub should remain a pub.

If the landlord and landlady were welcoming enough to go, and open accordingly instead whenever, we wouldn't have to endure these actions

When people look at moving into a village they want a shop, a school and a PUB. Elston is a very sociable village and we must protect our PUBlic house from having its license taken away as once it's gone, I'm sure it will be very difficult to get it back

For whatever reason The Chequers may well be in decline, but changing its use to residential is not the answer. There are building plots within the village ripe for residential use. The village needs to retain its social hub. A place where people can socialise with friends and neighbours alike. A place for local clubs to meet. A social hub that is open 7 days a week and serves excellent food and drink would attract the right customers back through the doors. Changing the use to residential would remove the social heart of the village and is an inappropriate planning application.

When we moved to the village 24 years ago we specifically wanted a village with a school, a shop and a pub. The school has excelled in recent years, the shop has held it's own, but sadly the pub is in decline. It may close it's doors in January but we need to protect the property as licensed premises to retain this important village asset.

Hoping that the support shown by the village last night has an impact with the licencees...whether that be a reduction in price, a change of heart with the concerted effort on all parts to make it the viable business it should and could be... It is vital it remains a pub and would be devastating to the village if closed..

I used to work in the pub in the early days when it was busy - poor management and lack of customer care (I am being polite!) has driven people away. They need to move on and let proper professionals run the pub as the community would come back to use such a valuable asset in our village.

It would be a big loss to the village to loose the pub. When I originally moved to the village with my parents the previous owners were lovely and the place was always packed. It was a shame when it closed originally and everyone turned out to support the new owners when they reopened. Unfortunately they do not appear to know how to deliver good customer service and have run the place into the ground. Although I no longer live in the village I still visit my parents there and used to enjoy popping into the pub for a drink which we no longer bother with. I strongly support keeping this venue as a pub but under new management!

Our lovely pub has been ruined because of this selfish woman. It was once a great place to have a drink and something to eat with friends. The pub has been run down on purpose with poor management and inept skills to ensure that she can close it. What kind of pub is open for so few hours and at times is locked up on an advertised night. The sooner she leaves the village the better. We need our pub back!

We need a village pub. No customer skills up there at present and not made welcome by landlady. very poor opening hours, if they even bother to open up. Need a pub with good food as previous had in village.

It was not that long ago with the right landlord that this pub was the hub of the village. A place to leave work behind and have a good laugh. It is not surprising that the downfall of the pub was undrinkable beer, no welcoming landlord and random opening hours. It is also ludicrous to be closed on Bank holidays. With the right landlord in place it would have 100% support as it used to be. It would be very sad to lose this amenity which has previously shown it can provide a great social meeting place for families and friends.
