You can go anywhere in the world but there's nothing like a British pub. Once lost never to come back. Fed up of seeing pub's changed into shops due to unfairness business rules and greedy brewery conglomerates. Gd luck with your petition.

I do not know this pub and I do not know where it is but I do know if pubs like these close they are lost forever and some ugly development for profit and of no use to the locality will be there instead.

It has to be saved. 200 years old. The pub must be a listed building. To loose such history would be unforgiveable

The Chequers was a key part and centre of village life as i remember from growing up in Elston.

The village needs it's pub, our village doesn't have one so we'd love a welcoming friendly local to go to. This amenity must not be lost.

As someone who lives outside the village I would love to have a local where I felt welcome and could meet friends for lunch, in the evening and at weekends to take the family.

Use it or loose it - sadly when you do walk round to use it, its sometimes closed on the days when its supposed to be open. Not a good way to run a business!
Over 30 years I've seen landlords come and go but it was always well used & welcoming. We all had such high hopes when it was finally owner owned, having been closed for a while & sadly missed, even with their proposed limited hours. Its sad to see them loose interest & the way its been run down when it had been a thriving place to go.
A cynic would say the over inflated price asked for it as a pub & what would be a poor showing in the books was intential in order to say no buyer could be found. Come on Dave & Abi sell it at a reasonable price to people who really do want to see the pub as a going concern for themselves and for the villagers. Don't change it from pub to house to then sell it on just so you can move out of the village please.
