I have my Apt in CHELSEA - the homeless people are a problem. I’m sometimes scared to walk at night and day ... drunk and drug people and violent .

There has to be a way The City should help these people in need.

We also see this on our block in Noho on East 4th Street between Broadway & Lafayette. Altercations and fights, pit bull terriers terrorizing residents walking by with their dogs, drug deals out in the open, drug activity behind open umbrellas, filthy and unsanitary conditions with building superintendents unable to hose down the building/sidewalks occupied by these growing encampments.

Not just Chelsea, but all over NYC

Please Do not allow the West Village to become a base for the homeless who are drinking, drugging and fighting by our homes

In the 80s we successfully managed to get rid of the drug dealers by making a community effort in employing the Guardian Angels. Somehow I do not imagine a 'self-help' remedy is what's called for in the instance.

C'mon! How did this problem get so out of hand? And what are you going to do about it, Mr. Mayor?

I found this at an appropriate time given that I came home from a weekend away to find a porta potty has been installed on the corner of 18th and 8th, where I frequently have to walk a block out of my way to feel safe going home.

This is a serious problem in Chelsea, my neighborhood. The city needs to do more to find homes for these people. We pay a fortune in city and property taxes and get less and less in return

How sad that NYC is turning into the next San Francisco. I used to love coming to this area but now will avoid it at all costs. My family in Oklahoma even have been talking about how awful Mayor DeBlasio is! How would THEY know about this loser? He is THAT bad! Please vote him out as he seems to be AGAINST NYC rather than For it. WHY let such a beautiful, vibrant City turn into a scary place with mentally ill people running the streets. They need help as do the residents and visitors that bring their vacation money into NYC. The word is out that NYC is not safe and the Mayor doesn't care....2,000 miles away they KNOW. That is such a Disgrace! This guy has to go!

It is Amazing to me that the Street which has the most homeless and threatening characters is on the same block where Corey Johnson's Offices are.

My husband and I both work in an office on 16th St & 8th Ave. I fear for both of our safety due to this escalating crisis. In addition, the homeless and addicts need help that they are not getting on the streets.

The area I have lived in for 25 years is no longer safe. I have been threatened on the street and witnessed many confrontations on 6th Ave in the 20s. The BRC truck (with their outreach people asleep inside) idles in my block next to half-naked, passed out people on the sidewalk and does nothing. The police can't or won't help most of the time. The residents of the area deserve better and the mentally ill homeless do as well.

This is a crisis for our city!! This mayor is incompetent by all means. I'm born and raised in the west village and it's never been this bad. I'm afraid to walk down the street sometimes because some of these homeless people come at you.I have children and am afraid for them as well coming home. It's about time something happens.

Google has made Chelsea a playground for the rich. Make them pay for affordable housing.

It is way out of control. There are homeless people in need of help in practically every subway station, bus kiosk, and empty doorway on 7th and 8th Ave between 14th and 34th Street. At night, under most construction scaffolding, they are sleeping on cardboard boxes with shopping carts, trash bags and suitcases filled with their belongings. They are defecating, masturbating and using drugs in public. I've been a NYC resident for over 50 years. This is as bad as Times Square in the 70s. Under Bloomberg, the City was much better. Whatever the deBlasio administration is doing, it is CLEARLY not working and, in fact, has made the situation worse. What a waste his wife's $800million ThriveNYC program has been -- as far as I can see it's done nothing to help these people with mental health issues who are suffering on the streets. The quality of life in NYC is going down the toilet.

The homeless problem has also escalated south of Chelsea in Tribeca and Battery Park additionally creating a garbage and sanitation issue as well. The Mayor simply is not doing his job and has created an abundance of social issues during his term. Where is he????

Our beautiful city is being destroyed because our Mayor does not care about the people that live here. We desperately need a strong Mayor that bring law and order and respect to our city. A mayor that will support and work with our police and enforce our laws.

This is common in every liberal city in the US. You get what you vote for. Clean the streets by being strict not expecting these sick (mentally ill) people to clean themselves up.
