Attending our son's graduation from the North Point we noticed that an "overflow crowd" will be directed to the school's cafeteria. Once the gym's max capacity is reached they will close the doors. Parents may face the fact that they will have to watch their child graduate on the schools TV system. It is a bad idea. Send all graduatins back to the Show Place Arena.

As I write these comments, know that one son graduated from La Plata High School at the Showplace Arena, and we have a Sophomore and Senior currently at La Plata. Therefore, I am speaking as a family who has "been there" and not wanting to "go to North Point". When the decision was made to move the graduation into the county some reasons appeared clear. However, all of the information didn't seem to be open to the students and their parents. One of our concerns being that we were asked to pay $50 Senior dues, which in the past were slated for the expense of having graduation at the Show Place Arena. Others have asked the question as to how the $50 is now being spent. The feed back that it is being used to make the North Point Gymnasium less like North Point and more like ??? Is spending the money to "change" the look of the location supposed to make it better? This issue isn't limited to the way the location looks. These students deserve not to have to graduate at the rival school. I bet those of you who have long since graduated high school can still give stories about your rival school. Many of you would not have wanted to graduate from the rivals gymnasium. Also, there are many students who have family that will travel long distances to come and watch this momentous occasion. Only to be placed off site watching from a monitor. Other viable locations have been given. If the Blue Crabs Stadium is chosen and inclement weather arises. At such a time plan B can be put into effect. Students and families would be quite understanding if at such a time as that the graduation is held indoors at La Plata with off site area's in the school being used. All throughout their time in school, students are encouraged to compete to rise above their rivals. La Plata has done this. Why now would you back track and take away the opportunity to graduate in a local general location? My signature on this petition signifies that I feel that having La Plata graduation at North Point the i

Id rather see students graduate from their home school football field like my parents did in 94. I graduated at the equestrian center, it was nice, and i was under the inpression senior dues went t i cover that cost, so now where is the money even going?? If i was a senior again, i wouldnt even walk at another school. Its just wrong.

I for one want to see a expense report of where the Senior Dues are going. I have asked people over and over where the money went and no one seems to know where it all went. The petition is right about how the costs would be far less than having it at the arena. Let's do some math. 50 dollars, which was the cost of senior dues, 380 graduating students from La Plata= $19000 dollars. I guarantee that this graduation does not cost 19000 dollars. Where is the money??? Anyhow, I doubt we can change Venue now. Thanks for screwing the class of 2015 Charles County Board of Education -_- Let's hope that Class of 2016 doesn't get screwed like we did.

I have one granddaughter that graduated from LaPlata and graduation was at the Equestrian Center. My next granddaughter graduates in 2 years from LaPlata. We want her graduation to be held at the Equestrian Center, just like her sister. Unless you can come up with another unbias venue, such as CSM. Looking at North Point, I do not believe it is large enough.

As a student at LPHS I find graduating at a rival High School to be disrespectful, I have experienced high school at La Plata. There should be no question on the matter, we should graduate at our school. Maybe I'm bias due to the fact that I've sat through 2 graduations at Show Place completely incoherent from Benadryl due to my extreme horse allergy, but it isn't even in our county. I would support a venue such as CSM because it is local and many seniors are even dual enrolled there. Or even Regency Furniture Stadium, because what is wrong with an outdoor venue? Also another question I would like the answer to is what are North Point students going to do on graduation days? Will there be classes going on or will the underclass students be missing several school days of valuable instruction time? Because that doesn't seem quite fair to any student who values their education. Holding graduation at our rival school (ya know the one that gets all the attention and benefits despite the fact that La Plata performs better on oh so important standardized testing) is disrespectful to students, families and staff who have devoted time, energy and support to OUR high school and illogical when alternative venues and funding ($50 senior dues and fundraising opportunities) are available. The suggestion for a walk out to the board building is a wonderful idea and I think it could quickly gain support,

I'm a studen a North Point graduating this year and I understand no one wants to graduate from our school. Honestly, most of us don't want to either, as our class size is so large. We have never been given the option to graduate from the showplace arena, even though we do have the largest class size in Charles County. Even so, this year all North point emblems and mascots will be covered by the Charles County Public Schools logo, so while we may be graduating from our own school, we won't even be able to tell. Also, parking is horrible and people wait in line for hours to get into the graduation ceremony. Honestly, all schools graduations should be held at the Arena, as not only does no one want to graduate from another school, North Point students do not want to be once again shoved into a gym that can no longer accommodate our class size.
