Chaos! - The New Birmingham Road Layout

Causing stress for no reason at all having to leave the house earlier than I used to

I have lived on Park Hall virtually all my life, 50 years. i have never known a consistently snarled up Birmingham Rdsince the new layout has been introduced. The layout was supposed to prevent the RTA we have had over the last few years. however i would suggest most of these have been caused by drivers speeding/ joyriding through the section, which will continue to happen with the new layout, so number 1 reason for the changes will have failed. I would be really interested to see the Town planners research into the new layout and see what data they used which provided them with the conclusion that this new layout would only create a better flow of traffic through this section. It clearly could not have forecast the utter chaos the new layout is causing consistently every week day and even on some weekend days. Or maybe it did and they ignored it and went ahead anyway.... Last night i was stuck in the traffic jam travelling towards Walsall from the M6 junction at 18.30. It took me nearly 15 mins to get from the Beacon Pub onto Park Hall estate. Before the new layout i would expect a significant traffic jam like this once every 3 or 4 weeks, either blockage on the northbound M6 or similar hold up locally. Now it happens virtually every week night. This is not an improvement and will deter road users to avoid the main roads and journey thorugh the housing estates along the route, which is not what the road system design is based on. Something has to be done the resolve this incorrect design change. the option of reducing traffic flow around this junction by forcing users onto other smaller routes through housing areas is not good practice and could cause many more accidents than we had previously. Town planners need to be held accountable for their decisions.

Commuting is a nightmare for affected combined with congestion and unsafe roads with the increased risk for all-poor decision making ! Needs serious rethinking .

Slowing everyone down, having to leave for work extra early!

Complete waste of money. Should have left it how it was and if anything opened up the bus lane as all the buses move into the right hand lane to avoid the traffic lights!! Walsall council removed the speed camera on this road years ago which is where the problems started. I am stuck in traffic for such a long time when returning to Walsall. Walsall council don't have a clue

Ridiculous new road markings on Birmingham road, adding 20-30 mins a day onto my commute. That’s over 2 hours extra commuting a week for what?!

Fed up with sitting in standing traffic on the approach to and from Junction 7

This new road layout is an absolute joke. What a complete and utter waste of tax payers money (which has just been increased). I work in Smethwick and live in Pelsall. This is a 12 mile journey that now takes me over an hour. To put that into perspective, an Elite distance runner could run the journey faster than I drive it. It took me nearly 20 minutes to get from the Harvester to the Bell Inn tonight, and the kids are off school !

Please stop this unnecessary congestion.

I would love to know how this has made the road any safer. The traffic was backed up to the harvester by St Margaret’s school-meaning the road crossings were blocked by cars and making the whole area less safe as a result. Crazy decision

Badly thought out changes which have increased congestion in both directions. This desperately needs re-thinking.

The stretch between junction 7 and charlemont road should have been made into two lane for the entirety instead of increasong the single lane section, this is adding a large amount of time to my commute to and from work along an already very busy route, and I am now reverting to cutting through the lanes and parkhall estate to get to and from junction 7 which im sure is not good for the farms/ residents along these lanes but I see few other oprions until the road layout is improved.

It has been nothing but chaos

The new layout is a disaster in both directions. No thought process. To create a filter lane for the pub has caused chaos and lengthy queues into Walsall. To create a left filter lane into Bell road has caused chaos and lengthy queues out of Walsall. As a consequence Park Hall roads have become busier and more dangerous Absolute waste of money by the council Needs correcting urgently

It’s an absolute joke. Drivers overtaking. Safety is worse, delays were already bad. The only 1 benefit is do pub goers? So are we encouraging drinking?

Changes should be reverted as has just caused huge delays for motorists

This new road layout slows down traffic and makes drivers more aggressive. I have tried to think about it from many different perspectives but I have no idea why the council would choose increase commute times and make it's constituents less safe. This new road layout gas no benefits and puts drivers at risk. Please change this!!

dangerous, congested, high levels of pollution, frustration - was that the idea? well consulted, well thought out, great use of public funds!
