Currently, Illawarra District Netball Association requires every registered senior team to supply TWO umpires every week at the game time alternate to their own.

Most senior teams are made up of women returning to the sport after having children, and do it as a social and fitness activity. This means that not all players can give up an extra two hours of their Saturday afternoon to umpire a gamedue to having to get children looked after or a lack of confidence in umpiring a full game.

We ask that IDNA change the umpiring requirements back to the system of havingtwo byes, and each team supplyfive umpires for each of these byes.

To support players and teams in providing competent and confident umpires, we ask that a IDNA insist ALL players complete the Level 1 umpiring course, provided online by Netball Australia, as part of their player registration (players cannot take to the court to play or umpire without having completed this course).

Two umpires every single week is way too much for a rec team. most of us are rushing off to get our kids and cant stay for an extra two hours after our own game finishes.
